GdS: Milan hoping Leao follows Giroud as the last piece of the renewal puzzle

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to grapple with the renewal of Rafael Leao but there is optimism that an agreement can be reached, a report claims.

As reported yesterday by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have done a good job in getting key members of the project to renew in the last year from Theo Hernandez and Fikayo Tomori to Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer.

However, now the last piece is missing and it is Rafael Leao, which is perhaps the most important if you look at the player’s technical level and potential. Milan remain optimistic and will return to the negotiating within the next two weeks with the offer they have been putting on the plate for some time.

They are willing to give the Portuguese winger a fixed salary of around €6.5m plus bonuses which would, needless to say, make him the highest paid player in the entire squad.

The Rossoneri management have no intention of contributing to the costs of the Sporting CP fine, so the meetings with Leao’s entourage will serve to clarify various issues related to the extension.
