GdS: Maldini and Massara protect core with renewals – Giroud will be next

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management have been working hard over the last year to get some key members of the squad to commit their future.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how the word ‘renewal’ has sometimes been met with bitterness from Milan fans given the sagas that surrounded the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu and Franck Kessie, but things have changed in recent times.

Yesterday an agreement was reached for the extension of Olivier Giroud’s deal with the official announcement to take place in the next few days, and it continues a positive trend for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara.

Starting in February 2022, the directors began their rampant renewal run by getting Theo Hernandez to extend and then a number of others followed such as Sandro Tonali, Rade Krunic, Pierre Kalulu, Tommaso Pobega, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fikayo Tomori, Antonio Mirante right up to the latest in chronological order, Ismael Bennacer.

In the midst of all this, Stefano Pioli also extended his contract with the Rossoneri and did so with Maldini and Massara on the other side of the table. Keeping the core in place for the future is a good sign regarding the health of the project.
