CorSera: €80m revenues and 60-65k capacity – all the details of Milan and Inter’s new home

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter announced yesterday that they have chosen the Cathedral as the winning project for the new stadium, and some more information has arrived in this morning’s papers.

According to il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Populous’ “La Cattedrale” project has won the vote of the clubs over the “Two Rings” of Manica, Progetto Cmr and Sportium. The American studio has already designed several stadiums, such as the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the new Wembley stadium.

The Populous design is inspired by the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, two undisputed symbols of the city. In recent months, changes have been made to the area around the stadium to make it fall in line with regulations. Regarding the current San Siro, only one of the towers and a piece of roofing of the third tier will remain.

The new stadium will have a capacity between 60,000 and 65,000 seats, of which about 12,500 will be executive seats that will allow the two clubs to significantly increase revenues to around €80m each year. The complete project will be presented in 2022, while work should begin in 2023 and the clubs want to play games there in the 2026-27 season.

  1. At least 600m added to our debts for 20m higher matchday revenue. Not that great of a deal

From what Ive read its more about city counsil wanting too much for Meazza so even last ditch idea of loan for 99 years from the city was too expensive.

Id rather negotiate with city again, buy out meazza and add loggias up high. Its a lot of debt to take, considering the owners – both Inter and us – are not 100 percent secure
