AC Milan and Inter’s hopes of building a new stadium in the San Siro district have been given a huge boost by comments from Beppe Sala’s opposition.

As Calcio e Finanza reports (via MilanLive), the elections for the new mayor of Milan will soon take place and this is crucial for Milan and Inter with regards to the new stadium project. One of the most crucial issues of the candidates’ electoral campaign will certainly be the question surrounding the construction of the new ground.

Current Mayor Beppe Sala has voiced his support, but there were fears that if he were voted out, the replacement might not be as in favour of the structure. However, Luca Bernardo – the opponent to Sala – has voiced his thoughts on a new stadium for the two historical rivals.

Bernardo spoke clearly, and immediately took sides in favour of the construction of the new stadium, above all for the redevelopment of the adjacent area.

“We are looking at an area that is desolate and deserted during the day and dangerous in the evening. I believe that that must become a part of the central district and where people – not only the Milanese but also those who come from abroad – must live,” he said.
