Inter and AC Milan have officially sent Mayor Beppe Sala a non-binding expression of interest for the future acquisition of San Siro and the surrounding area.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, this is the first formal step towards the idea of a new stadium owned by the two clubs in the area of the current ground. The clubs worked on the document over the weekend and now the municipality will be able to follow through on the planned process.

The Rossoneri and Nerazzurri expect the Council to deliver the Revenue Agency’s appraisal with a precise assessment of the value of San Siro and the surrounding areas by the end of the week. The figure has not yet been revealed, but it should be around €200m.

The fact that the expression of interest is not ‘binding’ in any way allows the two clubs to possibly take a step back in the future, without the Council being able to take action against them, but it was still a necessary step in conjunction with the transition to the Revenue Agency.

There are still various steps to be complete, but the outline is increasingly clear especially after the meeting on October 22 in Rome between ministers Giuli and Abodi, the clubs, Sala and superintendent Carpani.

A draft project for San Siro has been outlined too: the stadium would be demolished with the exception of the corner that joins the south-east tower, a part of the orange stand and a part of the Curva Sud.

All of this would not be before 2026, when San Siro will host the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Games.
