CM: Former Milan midfielder Kessie wants to leave Barcelona as soon as January

By Euan Burns -

Former AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is very keen to leave Barcelona and could even try to move in January, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, which cites Spanish media sources, the Ivorian star is already tired of how he is being used in Barcelona and wants to leave Spain as soon as possible.

He left Milan at the end of last season on a free transfer for Barcelona but he has since had limited involvement and the Blaugrana have already been knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.

He was linked with a shocking immediate return to Milan at the end of the summer because he had not yet been registered by Barcelona and there was a clause allowing him to break his contract if he is not registered in the La Liga squad.

That situation was resolved, but now he wants to leave in January.

  1. Don’t let Barca get any money for you. You didn’t let us get any for you so don’t let them. Rot on the bench and whilst you’re there remember why you fought so hard to become a footballer all your life.

  2. Kessie is history and no longer needed at Milan. I don’t like ungrateful players like Kessie and Donnarumma.

Milan made them into a star and they turned their backs on the club and left for free.

    1. Milan did not make Kessie, they actually undervalued him compared to what they offered to Donarunma.
Today Milan has replaced Donarunma but not Kessie.

    2. You are wrong, every player have their right to stay or leave however his choice of Barcelona is wrong, any serious player shouldn’t waste his time in a Barcelona team

  3. On one hand, I want to be stubborn and punish him for leaving us as we were on the way up, ie offer zero transfer fee and max €4mn wages, no major agent commission etc

    OTOH

    a) he knows the Pioli system
    b) his characteristics in double pivot are useful
    c) he counts as a homegrown player.

Several reasons there why Milan should take the rational approach and re sign him on more generous terms. I think he’d be motivated to relaunch his career if he returned to San Siro and I also think fans would quickly forgive him (unlike Dollarumma)

    1. Hes on a contract though. It wouldn’t just be wages we’d have to pay but probably an unreasonably high transfer fee for a player who was ours 6 months ago.

    2. He made his choice, there is 0 chance he comes back to Milan.

A: He left the club without a transfer fee despite telling everyone his intention was to stay, Milan might forgive but they dont forget, so why should they bail him out now.

B: if he did come back he would want to be playing, do we drop bennacer for him? Bennacer is negotiating a contract extension, how will that go if he is getting dropped for cashie.

C: We really dont need him, Tonali & Bennacer are currently in the top 5 of midfield pairings performance wise in Europe

this is just my opinion ofc

      1. That’s right milan will never forget what hid did in his contract last year and yes we have our best midfield in the world bennacer and tonali and also pobega he will become one of the best midfielder … in my opinion milan will never let kessie get back to san siro he don’t deserve the red and black suit

  4. This is what happens to ALL the players that leave ACM: Dollaruma, Calhanoglu, Romagnoli and now Kessie as well. They thought they are superstars but without AC Milan they are unimportant in the world of football. I am just waiting to see which is the next player to make the same mistake, sadly.

  5. I’d take him —– but only for FREE and on cheap wages.

Because he screwed Milan instead of letting Milan get a transfer fee. He literally rejected Milan getting a fee from Barca so he could personally make more money.

So he either comes back to Milan for free or he can ride the pine at Barfaloma and we can watch him sit on the bench during the Euros too.

He won’t come back though. He doesn’t have the cojones and Milan can now afford a better midfielder.

Presidente? Nope, not anymore. Il Bidello is more like it.

  6. The problem with Kessie right now is that he has given out his chunk of meat for cat to feed on. If he even ever come back to Milan, he can’t be guaranteed regular place. Tonali has stepped. Even Pobega is not doing bad too. If he comes back to Milan, he comes to be punished for the way he treated us. He can never become a Milan legend again.
This should be a big lesson for Leao and Benaccer who are yet to renew their contract.

        1. Again. Delisional. There is not one single aspect of the game that Tonali is better than Kessie at. Not offensively, not defensively, not passing, not shooting, not marking. Nothing. But he’s Italian, so I guess that makes him better.

          1. I agree that Tonali is still not at Kessie’s level, but to say there’s no aspect in which he’s better than Kessie is such ignorance. Tonali has better vision and technique.

          2. right thats why Kessie starts so many games in Barca right? Such a godly footballer that can do everything but no fking club wants him

            strange

          3. ” There is not one single aspect of the game that Tonali is better than Kessie at. ”

Talk about DELUSIONAL. LOL. WTF are you on?

          4. @Boulden What a dumb statement. Have you seen Barcelona’s squad? Are you comparing that to Milans? Tonali wouldn’t even make the bench for Barcelona. Neither would most of Milan’s players, with the exception of Leao and Theo. And it’s not Kessie’s fault the coach is too stupid to play him. That’s why Barcelona is not doing well. Still waiting for any of you Tonali fanboys to tell me in what area of the game Tonali is beter than Kessie? Did @ Niels8 really say Tonali had better technique? that’s laughable. Tonali’s strong suit is his physicality , and even in that area he is second to Kessie.

          5. Tonali had more goal contributions than Kessie in less games last season and didn’t take penalties. He is better now and by the time he’s Kessie’s age he’ll be miles better.

          6. Wow that one strong delusional opinion lol
You are entitled to it by all means. I agree that some facets of his game are better than Tonali’s but I argue that Tonali is way ahead of Kessie at 21/22 years old

          7. Barca not playing him but he is very good LOL

Barca squad is much better than ours yet the team that is fking 6th in Serie A beat them twice, yeah

            wtf are you on

          8. @K

Lol in what way Barca squad is better than Milan? Did you even see Barca got demolished by Inter and failed to get through to the next UCL stage? 🤣🤣🤣

          9. What! Toñali has already proved he is a better player than kessie on the pitch, he steals more balls than kessie, has better passing than kessie and scores more goals than kessie. Kessie is a good box to box player but toñalis growth the past couple of years has earned him the right to say he is better than kessie. He was one of main players to win the league for Milan, kessie didn’t do much for Milan the last 6 months he played for the team.

      1. Pobega is not on the same level as Cashie but in the next 2-3 years he will be better than Cashie.

Tonali on the other hand he already above Cashie. He can assist and scored from open play, have good corner or FK, have good cross, and he can play physical like Cashie too.

Tonali got the brains and brawn while Cashie only have the brawn which is why Cashie is a BENCHWARMER in Barca and Tonali is a starter in Milan.

Keeps crying Cashie lovers lol 😂

        1. WOW the delusion in this comment.
I get it Kessie left Milan for the money, and you probably can’t wear his jersey anymore but in what world is Pobega on the same level with Kessie let alone be better than him?
Kessie was a very good player for Milan and played a huge role in Milan getting back to respectability in Italian and European football. Just because he left doesn’t mean he was/is a bad player.
Same goes for Giggio, Hakan and Romagnoli.
People on here were blaming Romagnoli for every conceded goal and hyping Kjaer. Look at Romagnoli now, leader of the best defense in serie A. Only 5 goals conceded.
          Stop being so emotional 😢
Root for the players while they are at Milan, show respect after they leave.

          1. You Cashie lovers can’t read 🤣. I said in 2-3 years Pobega will be better than Cashie and there’s nothing delusional from that.

Romagnoli made blunders after blunders. It’s normal people blame him.

You’re the one who’s being emotional like a *itch 🤣

          2. Your nonsense is way more delusional. The poster did NOT say Pobega was better than Kessie why look for a straw man when there is none? Also Romagnoli was pretty average with us which is why not only Kjaer but even tomori and kalulu passed him by in the starting lineup, don’t think anyone here hates him and most always wish him well. Great for him that Lazio is doing well..but you should remember being part of the team with the best defensive record currently in the league doesn’t automatically mean you are a super defender. Don’t expect you to understand this last sentence as it requires thinking but who knows surprises happen

          3. “show respect after they leave.”

Depends on how they leave. Romagnoli left OK and he’s got my back. Cashie, Dollarumma & Turkey don’t.

      2. Damn rightt, kessie is way better and stronger, this guy has never been injured like most of the players and he has nn ever missed a match except for the time he got covid

  7. Please bring him back. He is sorely missed. Milan giving up way too many chances to the opponents this season. If we get Kessie back we win Serie A again this season.

    1. People the game of football is not a do or die game. Clubs knows that players must come and go. Why thinking about the past? How many players left Milan and Milan still remains. The current squad of pioli’s Milan isn’t doing bad. We just need a world class right back that can understand our style of play. Just remember this Sergino Dest comes from Barca, why is he not playing if you say we can’t compare our team with Barca?

    2. Even without kessie we will win serie a by the grace of God, forget about him, tonalli is better then kessie at high press, and before Milan chase tonali Barcelona ask about him, I am talking to that person whose said tonali won’t make even d bench at Barcelona

      1. Tonali is not better than Kessie. I don’t want Kessie back though.

Kessie is a fish outside water in the 4.3.3 that’s what Barca is playing, and this is because he can’t make long passes.

  8. Sentiments aside, if its possible to bring him back without hefty fees and other dramatic scenarios, I will gladly welcome him back.
He contributed immensely to our success last season. And I know he will give his all to make up for the troubles.

  9. Kayson, u should know that Milan is not a prostitute, so that you can leave it and come back later as if nothing ever happened…
Kessie should pay the consequence of his action!! He wanted to leave Milan when we needed him and I don’t think Maldini will accept him in the team…

  10. K , I think your TV is upside-down… frankly you should check it bro!
There could never be any other reason why you see Kessie as a better player than Tonali… yes better than Pobega , but not Tonali nor Bennacer

    1. Indeed Bennacer is way better at spreading the bal while tonali is a player who gives his all for Milan, I’m not under estimating Kessie but I prefer Tonali, Bennacer over Tonali Kessie. There is no wonder why Xavi prefers other players over Kessie eventhough Kessie is a tank but that’s pretty much it

  11. Let him rotten on Barca bench, we are doing fine without him, his present predicament serves him right, that’s what happens when you are ungrateful and greedy.

  12. Kessie lacks pace and his UCL performance was really poor. I would say we need experienced players in midfield. What we have in hand is good enough to win group matches and Serie A. But we should aim for a proven leader in midfield who is in the age of 26-30 who can be really useful to bring back the Rossoneri glory.

  13. He is not coming back. He is having some problems now but I don’t think k he expected to walk I to the starting eleven just like that. He will be fine.

  14. Tonali had more goal contributions, more goals from open play, more assists and played in less games than Kessie last season. Numbers do not lie. He is a superior footballer.

    1. You are clueless. There’s a reason Milan are conceding more goals and giving up way more chances this season. That reason is Kessie. Without him in the midfield the defense is being exposed. Kessie was a beast in the midfield. Tonali was the third choice midfielder and that’s exactly how it should be. Anyone who doesn’t have an Italian bias can see that.

      1. Bro the numbers don’t lie. We have the third best goal differential in the league. We are without our starting keeper. We were missing 6-7 starters for a large chunk of the current season. We look way more potent going forward than we did last year and we are conceding goals because there is more space and we were playing two very aggressive CBs. Two games with Kjaer back and our goal differential was 8-1. Tonali’s numbers were better last season at 21 years than Kessie at 25 years and who had been in the team much longer. It is you who are clueless.

        1. That’s the same CB pairing that posted the most clean sheets in the league last season. Only difference this season is that they don’t have Kessie in front of them now.

          1. Go back and read the player ratings from the two teams we drew in the league and the Napoli loss. It was either tomorrow or clue who lost his man in transition or on a set piece. Not to mention when Dest got turned inside out and gave a penalty against Napoli.

          2. This squad is not missing Kessie. They are missing their two first choice RBs, and their starting keeper. They are also missing the continuity that comes only after new players have had time to adapt to the squad and style of play. Having had to rely only on Leao and Giroud for attack for 7 games and missing Maignan fkr half the season so far, I say we’re doing pretty damn good.

          3. Not true at all Flossonero. They were actually conceding more goals before Maignan got hurt, and Calabria. And Maignan was playing great, he saved many goals. That just further highlights how badly the defense misses has been and how much they miss Kessie. The guy was the most consistent player on the team, never gets tired. Milan would be lucky to have him back.

          4. Anyone with eyes can see that Milan are stronger than last season despite missing as much as 7 starters for half the season so far. We are scoring more and yes conceding a bit more due to space and our CBS getting caught in transition. Please go back and watch Tomori’s position on the Simeone goal in our loss against Napoli. He had to hoof it back from halfway up the field and then was caught in no man’s land when the cross came in. That’s our only loss so far. This team does not miss Kessie at all.

          5. Any of you idiots still think the team is better this season after watching them get dominated by Torino? The all Italian midfield of Tonali and Pobega got bossed all over the field.

  15. Click bait. Nothing more.

In any case, hypothetically speaking, he is persona non grata already. Last January Milan agreed a sale with Tottenham, but he refused the move through his agent because they already agreed to move to Barca for free, so the agent can get higher commission.

Again, why does he want to leave Barca after 6 months? He doesn’t want to take a pay cut, since Barca has missed out on UCL group qualification. Barca won’t mind selling him for sure.

They really don’t need him and he can fetch them money.

To those Milan fan who are just sentimental. Bennacer-Tonali is a better combination. A lot of people say Kessie was so good, but it was Bennacer who was the main brain of the tandem. Kessie was just muscle and nothing else.

Fact check: Milan bottled a winter lead in 20/21 season because Bennacer was not available. Football is not just muscle. Tonali may not have Kessie’s muscle but he has grit (grinta) and he’s definitely a better player technically.

So, Milan does not need Kessie. Pobega gets his chance to grow being a backup, so also does Vranckx who has potential. So, what exactly does Milan need Kessie for? Maybe, he needs Milan, but then who’s going to waste money on what he doesn’t need?

  16. Also people conveniently forget that Barcelona wanted to buy Tonali the summer he came to Milan. They signed Kessie because he was a free transfer and they are in deep debt.

  17. Because of greediness Kessie let us, Tonali lower his salary just to represent the red and black, Kessie is failure he promised us at the Olympics
that he will renew and failed to live up to his promise, Tonali is a hero he loves the club not money so he gets his which, Kessie love money so he getting what he deserves, sleep on the bench and get more money dude, Tonali is better u in all. I personally will never welcome u at Milan.

  18. Since he wasn’t smart enough to see that this was Bsrca’s plan (as for many others they got on a free transfer), to get him for free, treat him like Memphis, and then get money for him. make 100% profits. IT’S ONE OF THEIR MAJOR PLANS, TO MAKE PROFIT.
THIS OUGHT TO BE A GOOD LESSON FOR MANY OTHERS TOO.
Milan will never pay a cent for him, trust me, even if they want only 10 million.

  19. Nah, Milan don’t need him. He can rot at Barca bench for all i care.

    1. Bennacer-Tonali pair is better than Bennacer-Cashie pair.

    2. Pobega, Vranckx, Krunic are enough for substitute.

    Bye Cashie 👋

    1. Why are you comparing the Bennacer -Tonali pairing with Bennacer- Kessie, when the pairing that helped Milan win the title last year was Tonali- Kessie?

      1. Did you even watched last season?
Did you even see Tonali important goals against Lazio, Verona, Atalanta? Without those goals Milan wouldn’t scudetto.

Last season Pioli played Bennacer-Tonali more than Bennacer-Cashie because Bennacer-Tonali produced great results.

Meanwhile Cashie sucks. He slows and unfocused and only a few times he played well. That’s why last season Cashie sit more as a benchwarmer.

Stop being emotional Cashie lovers 😂

        1. Tonali started 31 games last season.
          Kessie started 25.
Bennacer started 15 , same number as Krunic BTW.
Yeah that’s sounds like Pioli preferred Tonali and Kessie.
That’s called facts not emotional nonsense you are pushing.
But as per usual your comments are full with hatred for the players that left.
Grow up , it’s a business. Players will go there where they pay the most as in any other profession.
Kessie was a hell of a player for Milan, and he also will be for Barca once Xavi get his head out of his ass and bench Busquets.
That meathead mentality that if a player doesn’t play for Milan anymore you should sh*t on him it’s what makes you emotional

          1. Lol so now you admit that Tonali is better than Cashie.

I don’t care what Xavi gonna do with Barca, i’m not a Barca fans. But a clear view here that Cashie is sucks at Barca. If Cashie really great then why he’s a benchwarmer? Don’t blame the coach, blame the player.

Nah, you’re the one who emotional and needs to grow up here moron. You can’t accept the reality that your boyfriend isn’t that great lol. Now you’re attacking Milan fans who doesn’t want him to go back.

You should cheer Barca if you really love Cashie. Enjoy watching him in the bench lol.

        2. “Last season Pioli played Bennacer-Tonali more than Bennacer-Cashie because Bennacer-Tonali produced great results”.
          Those are your words.
          Don’t change the subject.
You said Pioli played Benacer-Tonali because they produced great results, the actual numbers I gave you show otherwise.
And I’ll watch whoever I want.
I’m just pointing out someone who even though is praising Bennacer and Tonali to shit on Kessie, in few months he will shit the same way about Bennacer if he chooses to leave for more money.
Frankie de Jong also is on Barca bench and he would be the best midfielder by far if he played for Milan

  20. Stats-wise last season Kessie is better than Bennacer in both defence and offense. He was also better than Tonali in most important defensive stats but 50-50 on the attacking stats meaning Tonali is slightly better in the attacking phase.

Do I want Kessie back? I don’t know but I do know we’re missing that piece in the midfield this season. The protection of the backline is certainly a problem this season

  21. Kessie was a true professional. He worked hard until the last game was over. He deserves to come back if he wants. Also, he is one of the few ‘guarantee’ players. If he is on the field then his position will not be a problem and his area of the field will be dictated by him. I hope Milan give the situation a look. He’s a great player to have around.

  22. Pretty useless controversy.

We are playing well without him (although obviously any team has to adapt to the loss of a starter and of great for the tactical scheme), we don’t need him to return and, what is more significant, he simply will NOT return.

    End of story.

  23. Do some of you actually watch football? Barcelona have a better squad than us? No, they don’t. They have a more expensive squad. Their defence is shit. They have some good midfielders and they have Lewandowski. There’s a reason they didn’t make it out of the UCL groups, even INTER beat them and Inter were missing key players. As for our defence, Tomori has made several, costly mistakes which have been punished, that more than any absence is the reason for the lack of clean sheets. Kessie will be sold to an EPL club, Barcelona need the money and EPL clubs have deep pockets.

  24. Nah, no way he’s coming back. This transfer would cost us ~50mill + his wage + agent commissions.
The only chance is a loan deal where Barca pays 30-50% of his salary.
He could be a leader ‘el Presidente’ at ACM but put everything at risk and lost it.

  25. Blah blah blah, people arguing about stupid sh!t. Where in the article does it say “and he’s looking to come back to Milan”? Nowhere. Even the “immiediate return” in the summer was nothing but a rumor. It’s completely moot whether Kessie is better than Tonali or Bennacer, or whether anyone in Milan could make the Barcelona roster. Kessie is not coming back to Milan under any circumstances. It would be a humiliation for the player having refused a generous contract extension, and a desperation for the club who would have to pay his even higher salary and pay Barcelona a fee. So there is nothing to argue about this clickbait. If Kessie leaves Barcelona it will be to the Premier League, where someone with his skill set is meant to play anyway. So everybody just calm down and enjoy Cashie’s regret.

    1. Exactly what I was thinking – this article isn’t about Kessie possibly returning to Milan. It’s about his dumbass decision to leave.

  26. I’m a Milan fan and sad to see so many people hating on Kessie who did so much for Milan to win the title last year. Doesn’t matter who you compare him to – HE MADE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE TEAM, that’s it! Doesn’t matter if he is better or worse than Tonali or Bennacer. Did you see their performance against Chelsea? Kessie would not have been bullied like that.

Embarassing to see so called “Milan fans” behaving like spoiled children.

I usually tease Chelsea, Arsenal and Inter supporters for having awful fans, then I see comments in places like this…

  27. Agree with everyone. This isn’t good form. However, even if he is not prioritised, we need squad depth, desperately. Drop a few players and we lose 5-0 to Chelsea on aggregate. It’s appalling.

  28. Lets look at the facts.

    1. Kessie was a professional until the end of the contract. Gave is all for the team and played a MAJOR part in us winning Scudetto.

    2. Kessie going for free was not HIS Fault. It was our managements immaturity by not selling him earlier. He has all the rights to wait out the last year to get better pay in his prime footballing years. Its NOT betrayal like a certain Turkish Snake.

    3. Kessie WAS the reason our defense did so good last season. HE was the third CB when needed. Bennacer and Tonali has really good strengths, but defending like Kessie isnt one.

    4. There was no bad blood between Kessie and Milan. He never disrepected the club unlike Hakan and Gigio.

    5. Fans are thinking emotionally. If there is a chance to bring Kessie back, we should take it. He would guarantee an extra protection in the backline and defense and we need it.

But the bottom line is, we are fine without him. If he wants to take a paycut for regular football, by all means, he can return.

But I dont see it happening.

No way we are spending money when we have Vrankxx. Besides Tomori’s few mistakes, our backline is fairly solid. We just need magic Mike back is all. And Pioli is very good at organizing defensive plays. So defense is not much of a concern for us.
