Milan left with questions as De Ketelaere’s season comes to an end

By Isak Möller -

Charles De Ketelaere’s season has come to an end as Belgium were knocked out of the U21 Euros earlier today. Unfortunately, the tournament didn’t provide any answers for AC Milan ahead of the upcoming season.

De Ketelaere’s first season with Milan was very disappointing, registering just one assist across 40 appearances. Therefore, the Rossoneri were hoping for the playmaker to do well with the U21 Belgium side at the Euros.

However, apart from a couple of nice actions by the 22-year-old, the same struggles we saw with the Milan shirt were confirmed. Milan are thus left with questions and no answer ahead of the 2023/24 season.

It’s been reported that Milan could consider a sale, if the offer is right, but that may have changed with the departure of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle. In any case, it’s clear that the No.90 must improve in order to stay at the club in the future.

  1. “A couple of nice actions”… just about sums up his whole season. Apart from his performances, I have a problem with grumpy-ass players like him, Dida and Balotelli etc. Can’t we just sell this guy already?

      1. Thee shalt not speak ill of thy Lord Dida who costest us the CL 2005 final among countless other matches. Banish thee, be gone foul Dejan!

      1. Personally I’m done – but seeing as we hardly have any midfielders left I suppose I’m willing to give him another shot.

      1. Sorry you’re right, he didn’t look grumpy at all – I found the only known photo of smiling on the pitch in 2003.

    1. I totally agree with you. Team is getting handicapped. I am not very optimistic about this line up and the coming season… without the leadership of Zlatan , no Tonalli , no Bennacer, aging Giroud….. I wonder which of the other gems like Leao, Theo and Maignan would want to stay….

  2. Give him 6 months, then he goes out on loan or is sold if it still isn’t working. BTW, I’d persist with Origi for a while as well – players don’t become useless overnight. Confidence is a precious, and easily-lost, commodity.

    1. There can’t be more than 2 non-EU signings from abroad for Serie A club. There is no way Kamada, RLC, and Chuk come at the same season to Milan.

  3. The problem here has been obvious for a long time and was supported by the SM statistical analysis.

He’s not an AM. CDK played his best as a false 9. Play him up front or sell him and cut the losses now.

    1. I prayed for CDK to play as a false 9, it’s his perfect position o do not understand why…WHY did Pioli never see that!!

      1. It seems Pioli is more of a “classic 9 up front” tactician. With him, the likes of Rebic, Origi and Leao up front never worked.

  4. It’s not about cdk in the end. It’s about Pioli. Can he use him, will he use him?
I’m sure the kid is talented but if you don’t play where your strengths are you ain’t gonna amount to much.. and if the coach can’t find your strengths to integrate you into the team. Game over

  5. Personally i’d keep him for another year, he could still turn out to be the best buy of 2022-23 season but just not working out that well that season.

  6. If we place him as striker:
Can he run and dribble like leao, he could be.
Can he shoot dan do a header like giroud, he could be.
He has what it takes to be a good striker just maturity, confidence, and learning from senior when doing joga bonito 😀

    1. No, he indeed is good at finding space and operating in the box but he’s weak in arial duels. Anyway that’s something he can improve, he just needs to bulk up a bit. He’s already on the slower side so it wouldn’t affect his play much.

  7. FYI.. It took Pioli about 3 years to even figure out that Diaz is a RW and ALL his best performances for Milan came when he played as a RW. It took Pioli about the same time to figure out Krunic is only good as a destroyer CDM.

    1. For that big price, they simply want faster result of player performance bc if they know cdk will take 3 years or so, they won’t buy him for the price to performance ratio isn’t what they expect to be.

  8. I saw De Ketelaere play all his games with the U21. He has a good vision and passing but he lacks speed and determination. I would say sell him for a good price, but no one will pay hefty for a player who hasnt shown anything, and also we are in lack of midfielders, one more reason not to sell him in my opinion.

    1. Strange that he lack speed as he was sprinting toward KDB through ball and bring it inside Italy box when he scored vs $umma with nutmeg (he played as RW at that time). I guess it is not about pace but more about tactic given to him or his willingness to run.
