GdS: How Milan should line up in title-deciding clash with Sassuolo

AC Milan should stick with Rade Krunic rather than Ismael Bennacer when they head to Sassuolo for Sunday’s title decider, a report claims.

The main selection dilemma for Stefano Pioli in recent weeks has been whether to use Krunic in the attacking three with Franck Kessie playing deeper, or to push Kessie forward and play Bennacer in the deeper role.

He has been sticking with Krunic and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport he would be wise to do the same again for the final game of the 2021/22 Serie A season.

The excellent form that the Rossoneri have been showcasing in recent weeks means that a huge amount of the eleven picks itself.

The recent 2-0 win over Atalanta was started by the same players who will almost certainly star the game at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday where Milan just need a single point to clinch their first title since 2011.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Krunic, Leao; Giroud.

  1. Giroud should lead the line again ,as this is his match .
experience will be very important in the final game …
I believe we will win this game ,and be crowned champions…love to see Oliver score the winner .
This AC Milan team have been magnificent and I truly believe that they deserve the scuddeto..
A great team that has relied upon experience and youth …That alongside a truly great manager in Stefan poli …

  2. The most important thing is for Brahim’s ass to remain firmly attached to the bench, the rest will solve itself.

If we had played Krunic or Bennacer instead of giving Diaz chance after chance for most of the season we’d be champions by now. I mean we were basically playing with 10 men. Oh well, better late than never.

  3. This is fine and Giroud’s experience is valuable; however, last few games Giroud has seemed out of gas (and he really actually had a poor 1st half vs Atalanta); so Pioli needs to go to Rebic off the bench MUCH sooner vs Sassuolo. When he was inserted into the match, the Atalanta defenders were paying a lot more attention following his attempted runs in behind and it opened up more space for Leao almost immediately (including on the play where he scored from that nice ball by Messias).

Also, Calabria has had 2 terrible matches in a row. Assuming Florenzi is fit enough to play 45 minutes, I’d love to see Pioli sub off Calabria at halftime and put in Florenzi whose crosses are much more accurate and dangerous and he has better ability to make sure he puts his shots on goal in places that will score (rather than straight at keeper like Calabria did twice vs Verona when he should’ve easily scored both times).
