Mike maignan

Journalist claims Milan star was ‘watched closely’ by Spurs in Champions League clash

Spurs are looking for a new starting goalkeeper and were impressed by Mike Maignan’s performance against them, according to a report.

It was back in May 2021 that the news broke of Maignan flying to Italy for a medical with Milan and he signed a five-year contract with the Rossoneri as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, earning the title of best goalkeeper in Serie A in his first season.

According to what is being reported by Ben Jacobs – who did a ‘takeover’ as part of Fabrizio Romano’s column for CaughtOffside – Spurs are looking to replace Hugo Lloris this summer and they have a number of targets on their list.

One of them is David Raya at Brentford while Valencia’s Giori Mamardashvili is another name ‘pretty high up on the list of possibilities’, but Jacobs mentions that Milan’s Mike Maignan was ‘also watched closely in Tottenham’s loss to Milan’.

He mentions how the Frenchman’s late save from Kane’s header in injury time to stop the tie going to extra-time ‘won’t have gone unnoticed’.

However, Pietro Mazzara wrote about Maignan in his weekly column for MilanNews yesterday and mentioned that Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are thinking of extending his deal.

  1. MM16 to Spurs? LOL. When was the last time they won any trophies? Going there would mean “no more trophies” for sure.
