Reports: Milan’s midfielder search continues – the identikit and No.1 target

There could be a late twist in AC Milan’s January window, as reports are claiming that a central midfielder may yet arrive after all.

As Calciomercato.com report, after the arrival of Kyle Walker, the directors are going all-in on Santiago Gimenez to try and convince Feyenoord to sell. While those headlines have been circulating, there has been little mentioned about a new midfield signing.

In the meantime, Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders are working overtime. Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been the deputies on paper, but the former has been used just as much on the right and the latter is injured.

Ismael Bennacer has just returned after a long-term injury and thus must be allowed to get back to his best more gradually, all of which has led the management to think about the addition of a new central midfielder.

The report cites La Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that the Rossoneri are thinking about an additional midfielder who can however be named in the UEFA squad list without having to exclude anyone else. In short, they need profiles who came through the academy in Italy.

The identikit is as follows: it must be a midfielder that is ready immediately, can arrive at a reasonable price and is able to play in front of the defence or as a mezzala. Calciomercato.com add that ‘all leads lead to Samuele Ricci’, the number one target but extremely complicated to snatch from Torino.

Ricci recently extended his contract until June 2028 but there is a gentleman’s agreement with Torino president Urbano Cairo: should offers of €20-25m or more arrive, the midfielder would be free to leave.

For now, Milan have other priorities and would perhaps like to find a solution at a lower cost, so other names might emerge. In the summer, however, discussions could be different and reactivated with Torino.

  1. “…should offers of €20-25m or more arrive, the midfielder would be free to leave.”

You want to tell me they’re ready to splash over €30m for Gimenez and €20m for Orsolini but won’t pay €25m for a midfielder we desperately need? Either all this with Gimenez and Orsolini is pure fakenews garbage or they’re not after Ricci at all. Moreover, Torino just loaned Buchanan from Inter and will probably have the upper hand over Ricci in the summer.

    1. My exact thoughts, this is the profile we have been craving and it is anticipated that Torino would ask for no less than 40mill but right here a clause is saying 25mil max and we are eveluating rubbish, and given we know RCL must/will be sold. This management isn’t serious at all.

  2. Acmilan management is not helping conceicao and is not Good at all Acmilan management should sign attacking midfielders for conceicao and stop telling us rubbish we need to be more than a team by now instead we are struggling to a small team like Parma that can easily be beaten by Napoli so is a big shame to Acmilan management if they don’t sign an attacking midfielder for conceicao.

  3. i actually think 25 is fairly reasonable for Ricci. We all know how Torino operates. I will never get over the whole Andrea Belotti is worth 100M. lol

  4. These articles want us to believe that we are proposing 20-25M€ for Ricci, 30-35M€ for Giménez and 20M€ for Orsolini plus one or 2 of our players.
    That’s around 70-80M€ in a winter.
From where the money is supposed to come ? How are we gonna finance all of these ? We don’t know.

    1. I think they can probably spend 40 mil or so if they take into account the money they will make for going to the CL playoff. But if they are spending all 40 mil on Jimenez that mean they have to sell Okafor for 25 or Jovic+Chuckwueze for like 30, in order to afford Ricci. Dont see how they gonna be ablt to afford Jimenez and Orsolini since Okafor and Chuckwueze is involved in the Orsolini operation.

Had they been able to sell Emerson for 15-18 mil to Turkey it would had been a different story.

  5. If they end up paying 20 mil plus Okafor and Chucky on loan for an injured Orsolini, instead of just signing Ricci for 25 mil right now thats gonna be IT for this management.

  6. This is the most needed signing by far, I would argue maybe more than a striker. It does not have to be Ricci, but we need a DM that is able to shield the defence and help with the buildup from the back. We are a team with no control of the game, made mostly of ball carriers that only think about running forward with the ball. How many 3-2 / 3-3 like the one against Parma we have seen, also under Pioli. It is a structural problem that we have since we have lost Kessie and than Krunic.
Ricci profile is ok in terms of characheristics, although I would prefer Rovella.

  7. Don’t believe every article, Ricci extend his contract and everybody knows Cairo don’t sell for “friendly money” .. his price is now 26m€ and in the end it will be around 35-40m€ for sure…. they don’t want to sell him now in January Window.. It’s hard to find good players now

  8. Sick and disgusted by furlani and company. They are bloody idiots ….. take months and months to strike a deal …. they are stupid, arrogant, ignorant, clumsy, fools …. only able to sign pensioner players …..
    HOW WE MISS MALDINI ….

  9. Moncada himself provided this photo to Sempre Milan archive. He looks so professional and like a true business man. He is talking on the phone so that means he is very busy. This photo was taken on the night of Super Coppa finale, as Moncada was on his way to the dressing room to change into clown suit 🤡🤡🤡
