Zlatan Ibrahimovic seemed to confirm before the Supercoppa Italiana final that AC Milan are looking to do January business, and the plans have changed with the new coach.

According to Calciomercato.com, Ibrahimovic’s words confirm an alteration in the strategy. Compared to a month ago, the Rossoneri management seem to have decided that they will try sign more than just a new midfielder.

Compared to what happened in the short era of Paulo Fonseca, the coach will have a decisive say in the choices. A coach, Sergio Conceiçao, who leaves with a business card of a trophy won a week after taking office.

The club are working to give Conceicao a striker who can also play as a winger, especially with Noah Okafor heading for RB Leipzig. The profile that intrigues a lot is that of Marcus Rashford, at odds with Manchester United and proposed by the English club to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In the next few days the Rossoneri will explore this possibility more closely, but Pepe from Porto could become an idea if the operation does not work out. He is a player that Conceicao respects him a lot from his time there.

The new coach’s first objective is to relaunch Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the signals that arrived yesterday against Inter in the part of the game played by the Englishman are encouraging. A new midfielder will arrive regardless, though.

Warren Bondo of Monza is a name being considered, but at least three or four other profiles are being monitored. Next week will be crucial because the Portuguese coach will give more precise indications on where to intervene. The message is clear: Conceicao will be heavily involved in shaping the squad.

  1. If Manu pay bulk of his wages would be good short term solution but his on 18m euros net we cant buy him permanently.

Its ironic we want a winger who can play up front and we’re selling precisely that player! Wouldn’t make sense to allow conceicao to evaluate Okafor before selling him like his done with Tomori? Seems like we’re shooting ourselves in the foot with such hasty decisions.

    1. Rashford is like 3 Okafors, realistically. Even when not at his best. Rashford is supposedly ready to take a pay cut and there would be buy option/obligation in the deal. Taking him on loan only is useless, Milan shouldn’t loan players on short term deals without the possibility of purchasing them later.

  2. How about some Italians:

Good for squad lists, already experienced in Serie A, not that expensive and not overpaid primadonna’s like Rashford……

    Berardi/Chiesa
    Prati/Casadei
    Coppola/Scalvini
    Parisi/Zappa
    Lucca/Raspadori

    1. I completely agree. For underperformed EPL players but with crazy salary like Rashford (not to mention he is also considerably lazy player), I would take italian players like the names you mentioned. Rashford situation is totally different with Pulisic, RLC or Giroud, for instance

    2. It’s a good list, but:

Berardi/Chiesa- I’d say Chiesa IS an overpaid primadonna, so let’s go with just Berardi if we have to choose between these two.

      Prati/Casadei – Fine.

Coppola/Scalvini – Why? Our starting CBs are Thiaw and Gabbia. They could be the main pair for years. A CB will only be necessary if one of our current group leaves, and then the incoming player ought to be someone who is good enough, but also comfortable not being a starter. So a veteran might be more appropriate. At any rate, Scalvini will be out of budget. That said I do like Coppola.

Parisi/Zappa – Parisi is reestablishing himself at Fiorentina and was complaining about playing time previously, so unlikely that would work, although his squad mate Biraghi could be the perfect Theo backup. In terms of RB, I think Jimenez should be given first shot at being the starter. He’s already here and integrated, thus Zappa is only relevant if something happens to Jimenez.

Lucca/Raspadori- Little Rasp might be too little and slow for what we need, even in a two striker situation. But I do really like Lucca. In fact, if we got rid of Abraham and brought Lucca instead, I’d be quite satisfied. Lucca starting, Morata backing up, Camarda slowly brought along.

      1. Sell Emerson n get Zappa…..Zappa shld start week in week out while Calabria n Jimenez deputize…..
For Striker get Scamacca and recall back Colombo next Summer while letting Morata leave….and we also giving Camarda chances to develop
In midfield getting Ricci and Casadei to beef up the depth

  3. For the attack whe should for Botafogo’s Luiz Henrique. He’s young, fast and very gifted technically speaking. I guess he could mix wonderfully with Pulisic and Leão. It would be certainly expensive, but definitely worth a try.

  4. “The club are working to give Conceicao a striker who can also play as a winger”. Why not a proper striker and a proper winger? Why are we getting a player that’s half-decent in two positions instead of two specialists? Add in the fact that he seems to have an attitude problem.
Unless he’s playing as a second striker in a 4-4-2, this would be a big and potentially expensive gamble.

  5. I completely agree!!! The most disgraceful thing I regret every day with this team is the lack of Italians. I mean, come on now, we literally have almost no one who is Italian. It’s disgraceful!

Fredo makes a fantastic point….there are definitely good Italians out there who should be looked at and bought!

  6. I just don’t understand the Rash move. He’s not a striker per every coach who’s worked with him. Even Mou said so. Means, he plays off the left wing. But we already have Leao there.

Rotation player? At his wages? Makeshift support striker off Morata’s shoulders? I’m having a hard time seeing this. Sounds almost like a Vini/MBappe conundrum – two left feet.

  7. Rashford is out of form, makes crazy money, is not a pure striker, has attitude problems, would have to adapt to a new culture, league and system all within a 6 month time frame….

    PASS

Not surprising we go for other teams rejects to save a few $$$$

Spend some real $$ and get a true striker that we need especially if we now will play a 4-4-2
