CM: From €15m to ‘200 million euros’ – Milan’s plan to recognise Maignan’s elite status

AC Milan are aware that they have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in their squad and they are planning a move to recognise that, a report claims.

A report from Calciomercato.com begins by recalling the words of Christian Vieiri, who stated: “Maignan is worth 200 million euros. He’s a devastating phenomenon, when you’re at the stadium you think he’ll never concede a goal.

“15 million? He’s worth 200 million, he’s a champion. I put him with the great champions in the history of football. If he hadn’t been hurt, Milan would have 10/12 points more.”

On Wednesday evening at the San Siro against Napoli he confirmed that he is simply among the elite in his position. It is worth recalling that he arrived in the summer of 2021 for €15m, and to many it feels like he is an upgrade on Gianlugi Donnarumma, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

It feels as though the Frenchman is competing with Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid and Ederson of Manchester City to be the best in the world, while Milan know this and want his contract expiring in June 2026.

Maignan – who will turn 28 on July 3 – earns €2.8m net per year which is €3.67m gross per season thanks to the tax relief provided by the Growth Decree. There is no release clause in his contract, but he’s not on the market for Milan and Maignan doesn’t want to leave.

  1. He is good with his skills, but it is his attitude that he plays, and he brings in the team, especially to that back like… that makes a real difference

  2. Definitely an upgrade from dollarruma. We can all say thanks to dollarruma for turning his back to the team that developed him.

  3. He is arguably our most important player – sign up him on a new improved contract quick as possible, before the $$$ of the Prem teams turns his head. Utd, Chelsea, Spurs all looking for a new keeper soon.
