Tuttosport: Milan’s plans revolve around Leao as winger and €50m striker are targeted

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management are beginning the think about the summer transfer window and a lot depends on the fate of Rafael Leao, a report claims.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), if Leao doesn’t extend his deal by the end of this season then Milan will sell him to the highest bidder and they aim to collect €70-80m, a figure that would then be reinvested to strengthen the squad.

There is still cautious optimism filtering regarding Leao’s renewal as Milan have put forward what they consider to be a good offer worth €6.5m net per season plus €1.2m in easily achievable bonuses, but his entourage want €7.5m net fixed.

In the meantime Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are evaluating various profiles to strengthen the attack while waiting to understand which way Leao’s future will go. They could move again for Nicolò Zaniolo having tried in January, while Jonathan David of Lille is now top of the list.

The Canadian has a very high asking price of €50m and there is a lot of competition (from Barcelona and Napoli above all) but with money from Leao’s sale Milan would have the economic strength to enter the race for the player.

In the meantime, Noah Okafor of Salzburg and Lois Openda of Lens remain in the viewfinder more as alternative targets for the time being.
