Official: New Primavera recruit faces six months out after ‘serious but rare’ eye problem

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have announced that last week Primavera player Leonardo D’Alessio suffered a serious but rare eye problem, and will be out for some time.

Via a statement on the club’s official website, Milan confirmed the ‘serious but rare’ eye issue that D’Alessio sustained last week, and it meant that he had to be kept under watch at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan.

He was held there for observation and treatment, and Leonardo is now doing well and was released today. Before returning to competitive action, he will have to undergo six months of recovery.

It is certainly a set back for the 18-year-old who joined Milan this summer having been a star of Roma’s Under 18 team, where he racked up 2 goals and 4 assists in 28 league games at that level. He has also made a couple of appearances for their Primavera side and is on the radar of the international set-up too given that  he has made his debut for the Italian U18 national side.
