Repubblica: Negotiations between Milan and Sassuolo over Berardi are well underway

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are currently enjoying their Scudetto celebrations but in the meantime work is being done to improve the squad ahead of next season, a report claims.

Today’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews) reports that directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara – who are waiting to renew their contracts which are expiring on June 30th – are already working to strengthen the team available to Stefano Pioli.

The first couple of additions will arrive with no outstanding transfer fee involved as Yacine Adli will return from Bordeaux where he was on loan, while Divock Origi will sign a contract and join on a free from Liverpool.

Then attention will turn to bringing in Lille duo Sven Botman and Renato Sanches for the defence and midfield respectively, while a new right winger is high on the agenda and negotiations with Sassuolo for Domenico Berardi seem to be well underway, as per the paper.

    1. LOL, you’d take a declared Inter fan while mentioning the other guy being in the Inter youth team. GJ 😀

  1. Sundays game showed us what speed can do. Leao was dominate and unplayable because of his speed. Berardi was invisible and was destroyed by Theo. YWe need someone as dynamic on the RW as we do on the LW with Leao. That is not Berardi. Berardi is a good player for a small club. He has never shined when on the international stage nor against top European clubs. He’s fine for the league but that’s it. We need more IMO and for 30M we can do way better. Asenio, Antony, Lang – all offer more speed and pace with the ball than Berardi. We should aim higher IMO. Berardi for 15M is fine, but Berardi for 30M please PASS. Speed kills and he does NOT have it.

    1. This year Milan’s formation and setup isn’t symmetrical. Of course, it could be and there’s no reason why next season will be the same setup as this year, but there’s a very distinctive plan to attack down the left this year, with the role of who is ‘outside’ and who was ‘inside’ switching between Leao and Hernandez.

I sort of agree with you that Berardi probably isn’t going to be a title-winner on his own and has never excelled for the national team, but his experience and consistency could well be a good balance if the left side stays together, he definitely feels like an upgrade over Messias (I think Saelermakers has a different skillset, very good for the defensive press). Your valuations feel about right to me (yes for 15, no for 30).

Lang and Asensio are definitely more ‘exciting’ prospects, but I wonder if Pioli and Maldini have a specific tactical plan for next year?

      1. I’m glad but surprised that you touched on the fact that we’ve not been symmetrical because it’s something most fans overlook. We’ve been playing like that for two entire seasons now and Pioli has even stated on more than one occasion that he fields an extra forward on the left, which is either Leao or Rebic. It’s a tactical approach that is used to create more balance imo and it has worked wonders but I’m hoping to see a greater evolution next season from Pioli and the boys.

In relation to the Berardi rumors, he’s a good player who could be useful to the team but he’s definitely not a must have especially if it’s going to cost us $30M. So much will depend on what the team’s objectives are for next season though.

    2. Berardi >>>>> Asensio & Antony & Lang. Stats Prove it. He has WAY better stats and is more consistent than the others u mentioned. Also put in mind he plays for sassuolo. Neither for madrid and nor against weak dutch teams with Ajax. (Even though Antony and lang are very young and might be great as they mature). And it is totally wrong to assume berardi is bad based on a single match performance. Also in what kind of universe would Berardi be bought for 15m. I want some of what you are smoking.

      1. Yeah cool. His stats look good for Serie A in the past 3 seasons but you need to see him play against City or Liverpool. He doesn’t average 1 dribble per game and isn’t a winger we need. Ok player, but I would like to see someone better or someone with potential like Antony from Ajax.

        1. I did agree all this players below re from where –bennacer , tonali, krunic, salermaekers, kalulu , all didn’t even cost up to 50 and they delivered so it doesn’t matter what team berardi plays for , he can make a difference ssh

    3. lazy argumentation and its clearly not correct.

what about all the players through the years that came from small clubs and did great or amazingly for us ?

a quick look at the 93/94 squad and you will see several players previously arriving from small clubs and im not even mentioning them all.

      Sebastiano Rossi – cesena
      panucci – genoa
      Stefano Nava – A.C. Reggiana 1919
      Stefano Eranio – genoa
      Daniele Massaro – fiorentina
      Marco Simone – como

so by the way you judge our aquisitions those players are just midtable team players that we should never have bought pffftttt i call it bs because berradi clearly has proven to do more than great and so what if he hasnt yet played cl anthony hasnt played in serie a either and will cost a lot more.

In regard of those people complaining about berradi has supported inter you all do realize that franco baresi was at a tryout at inter but they chose not sign him and so he ended up in ac milan instead.

    4. Berardi is good but he has shown no potential for ever getting better, 30 m better well spent on Leao and future. Antony has the upside, he will get even better. Now that we have the Scudetto actually in our poccession I would reach out to Dybala, maybe even as a 10

  4. The magic of Berardi was on full display against us on Sunday wasn’t it? Not a single shot on target. No dribbles. Ballooning shots into Row F. Completely useless in other words. I’d rather get Deulofeu back than this overrated Inter fan. Sheesh.

    1. He didnt play good on sunday against us but so did all off sassuolo. We cannot rely on a single match to base of our decision. I mean he got 15 goals and 14 assists this season which is more than any of our attackers and sassuolo came in 11th.

  5. It’s easier to look so good in a small side with no pressure, when you take the spot kicks and other setpieces…

It’s harder for players in top teams!

I’ll take a decent player from a trophy hunting team over a shining star from a “stay afloat” team, anyday!

  6. Make sense signing berardi as Milan is running out of Italian nationals for first team player, specially with definite signing of origi, botman and sanchez. His the best national RW currently available, an option could be bernardeschi who could be free. Don’t forget to mention if we lose our Captain. Milan’s Italian nat 1st team currently: calabria, tonali, maldini, gabbia, pobega. So next season could sign: florenzi, berardi, bernardeschi, belotti

  7. Berardi had one bad game against Milan on Sassuolo’s worst day, when they had nothing to play for, and he was still the last to give up. Scamacca, Raspadori and Traoré were invisible.

He’s been torturing Milan for years though. He’s got some kind of a record when it comes to scoring against Milan. He scored in the first leg too.

How can anyone doubt his stats? Hes producing those numbers every season and is not a one season wonder like Belotti.

    I’d definitely take him.
