GdS: Milan medical staff urge caution regarding Maignan’s return – the new target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have absolutely no plans to rush the recovery of Mike Maignan, so much so that his first taste of action could be in the next competitive game in January.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) write that Maignan has not played an official match since September 22. That day, in a game with France, the Rossoneri goalkeeper injured his calf and was forced to be miss a month.

In mid-October everything seemed ready for his return to the field, but then he sustained a new muscle problem in training at Milanello which prevented him not only from not taking the field again with Milan, but also from being called up for the World Cup in Qatar.

Maignan is part of the squad that left for Dubai a few days ago and is continuing his recovery, but the target of the Rossoneri medical staff is to have him ready for the first competitive match of 2023, scheduled for January 4 away against Salernitana.

The key work is caution, which is seen by the fact Maignan did not play in Tuesday’s friendly against Arsenal and will not take the field again tomorrow in the second Dubai Super Cup game against Liverpool.

In all likelihood he will not be risked in the last friendly before the resumption of the season against PSV Eindhoven either because the staff want to be sure of the strength of the muscle. Only when it is definitively healed will he come back.
