GdS: Milan sweat as Theo Hernandez suffers injury in view of Chelsea and Juventus games

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are anticipating being without Theo Hernandez for their next Champions League game against Chelsea, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that the left-back was unable to answer the call-up from France for their Nations League matches against Austria and Denmark due to a muscle problem sustained in the last league match against Napoli.

The tests he underwent yesterday showed a strain of the long right adductor that will be re-evaluated again in a week, and this means that he will certainly miss the away game against Empoli on 1 October and is also in great doubt for the next Champions League match against Chelsea on 5 October at Stamford Bridge.

There is a better chance of having him back for the crucial match against Juventus on 8 October in Serie A, and for the return group game against Chelsea on 11 October at San Siro.

There are two ideas to replace him: to play Fodé Ballo-Touré there who is a natural left-back but failed to convince, while the alternative is to move Davide Calabria to the left play Sergino Dest on the right.

  1. After RW we need to solve this issue. What’s the point of even having Ballo-Toure on the squad if they’d rather play a RB in the LB spot? The club needs to bring in a proper backup for Theo. Our depth is still generally paper thin in some positions and after upgrading RW depth is the no. 2 priority IMHO.
