Tuttosport: Milan want to ‘speak Italian’ – Ancelotti and Conte the ‘forbidden dreams’

AC Milan seem to have outlined a key pre-requisite in their pursuit of a new head coach: they must know Italian football, and know it well.

According to what is being reported by Tuttosport (via MilanPress), the Milan management are already looking for Sergio Conceicao’s successor and to be in such a situation suggests that something went seriously wrong in the decisions made last summer.

In fact, CEO Giorgio Furlani, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic seem to agree on one thing: the new coach will have to ‘speak [be] Italian’. By comparison, one of the criteria was to find an international profile and not a domestic one for 2024-25.

The paper speaks of two ‘forbidden dreams’ that the club are holding onto: Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte. Both currently have jobs – at Real Madrid and Napoli respectively – but there is a lot of noise surrounding potential exits.

Gian Piero Gasperini of Atalanta is another name mentioned, with Maurizio Sarri in the background, though he is unlikely to arrive if Igli Tare becomes the new sporting director because of the previous clashes.

Massimiliano Allegri would be more than willing to return to the Rossoneri and he is out of work. Finally, the previously-linked Roberto De Zerbi and now Vincenzo Italiano complete the list.

  1. Mismanagement at its finest. Something like that is not expected from people who have billions of dollars worth portfolio in sports among others.

The other and also bigger factor are their inflated egos and narcissistic disorder accompanied by superior complex. They thought they’ll bring something new and better from the yankland and revolutionize Italian football with their ways of doing business. Hard fall this is. And well deserved too.

  2. Carletto is indeed a dream. In the same way Klopp was a dream last year. So stop it. Conte, i would say many fans were against it, simply because we know where that train goes. Conte wins the title then for whatever reason complains too much for lack of players and by year 3, he leaves with the club in flames. Aside from his long stint with Juve, that’s his pattern and a lot of ppl didnt want to see that. Perhaps he changed. But then again, why would he leave a Napoli side that could very well be the scudetto winner this year for a team with no UCL

  3. Correction: italian media wants milan to speak italian. Not saying I wouldn’t like that, just saying that based on the club’s actions, they want the opposite: to have nothing to do with italians.

  4. Out of these names, for me
Level 1 = Italiano, Carlo and Conte
Level 2 = DeZerbi and Gasperini
Level 3 = Sarri and Allegri

  5. I know guys you never liked Alegri, but he was the only that could minimize the damage and keep us in the CL. Now, as we will have different kind of season next year, its best to invest in gameplay and identity.

  6. Carlo needs a squad of already or near final/finished products as well as a set of new up and comers in the pipeline. It’s why Madrid is perfect for him. We don’t have enough players that are final product players. He would spend too much time to develop them into that. He would not be a good fit as much as I love Carlo. Plus I don’t want his legacy to be tarnished if things go south.
Conte is interesting. Last year he seemed like he really really wanted the Milan job. Even showed up to games taking notes lol 😂. If that wasn’t a clear sign then I don’t know what was. While he’s doing well with Napoli with all due respect to Napoli Milan is still a bigger club. And I feel he wants that challenge, the pressure level is higher and some coaches live for that. I still think he would easily leave Naples to come to Milan. If we’re smart….
And to the others, it’s a punt. You hire them it u have to stick with your choices as Sacchi said. But don’t hire someone who failed in Serie A and then wonder why we are also failing

    1. Yes, but he comes in with a hefty salary AND a list of demands. I will say though, that the Napoli team is far from complete and he’s still making it work.

But would Tare and Conte coexist if it came down to it? Tare can work on a budget – had done it for years. Can Conte?

  7. Carlo needs and has always needed high IQ players and sadly we have maybe 2-3 in the whole squad. Carlo also needs which we currently don’t have is passers not runners.
