Milan’s road to Europe gets tougher after Coppa Italia exit – the situation

By Isak Möller -

Many believed that AC Milan would suffer a big loss against Juventus last night, playing away from home. However, despite being a man down for a majority of the game, the Rossoneri stood tall but eventually lacked quality up front.

And so, one road to Europe vanished. Had Milan reached the final, taking on either Napoli or Inter, they would have played for a spot in the Europa League. Now, they will have to secure a spot in the competition through the league.

Currently in 7th place, three points off Napoli in 6th, it will be a tough task to secure direct qualification to the competition. A lot will depend on the outcome of the Coppa Italia final, of course, but there’s no use in speculation too much.

Given the tight schedule, taking part in play-offs might not be the best thing and thus Milan will look to finish in 5th or 6th. The latter position will most likely also secure direct qualification, although that is yet to be determined.
