Milan legend says Pioli has been ‘great for the club’

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan legend Alessandro Nesta has said that Stefano Pioli has been ‘great’ for the club and is starting to get used to the level of the team in the Champions League.

Speaking during an interview with Metro, a UK-based newspaper, Nesta discussed the quality of the coach and the effect that he has had on the club so far.

He is clearly very fond of Pioli, saying: “He has been great for the club. Milan had problems before he joined but he has worked hard to get them to this point. He has a great mentality and now he is getting used to the levels in the Champions League.”

Pioli will get another chance to show that he can hold his own with this Milan team in the Champions League on Wednesday night when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Nesta said that he is very intrigued by the match given it is only this Milan team’s second season playing in the Champions League and they are up against an opponent who won the tournament the year before last.

“I’m very curious about this match, I’m very interested to see how Milan approach this game. It is only the second season Milan have had in the Champions League for a long time and it is a different level and not a lot of the squad have played in this competition. But in two or three years, they can compete to win the trophy, I think.”
