ML: How much Milan will save thanks to departures of Kessie and Romagnoli

By Isak Möller -

At midnight, the contracts of Franck Kessie and Alessio Romagnoli expired and Milan won’t sign any new ones with them. It’s not all negative for the Rossoneri, though, as they will save some money.

Kessie has more or less been confirmed as a new Barcelona player for quite some time now as only the official announcement is missing. For Romagnoli, it’s not quite as advanced but he’s just one step away from joining Lazio.

It’s two heavy departues for Milan given the importance of them both over the last few years. However, they were unable to reach reasonable agreements on the renewals and thus decided to move on, just like with Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu.

As highlighted by MilanLive, these departures will free up some space on the wage bill for the Rossoneri. Kessie received just over €4m per year gross and Romagnoli was at just over €10m gross for his last season (salary increased every year).

In other words, around €14m that Milan no longer have to pay in salaries and that will make space for some signings.
