MN: 50-50 battle on the left as Calabria’s return gives Pioli another option

By Isak Möller -

Davide Calabria has recovered from the muscle injury he sustained while on international duty with Italy. Therefore, he will be available for the game between AC Milan and Hellas Verona, but his position is uncertain.

The right-back has been an important player for the Rossoneri this season, but he did miss two games a few weeks ago. Pierre Kalulu stepped in and did very well, which is why Stefano Pioli is considering a different solution for Saturday.

Instead of starting Fode Ballo-Toure in Theo Hernandez’ place, as the latter tested positive for Covid-19, Pioli could deploy Calabria. The battle is currently 50-50, as explained by MilanNews, with more updates expected soon.

This solution would mean that Kalulu will play from the first minute on the right-hand side. Tomorrow morning, Gazzetta Dello Sport will publish their expected XI and it will be interesting to see what it is.

  1. I have not seen anything from Ballo-Toure that would lead me to not play him in his specialist position and shift Calabria to the other side.
