MN: Calhanoglu’s injury unfortunate but opportunity arises for on-loan Real Madrid man

By Oliver Fisher -

An opportunity has presented itself it Brahim Diaz albeit in an unfortunate way, as Hakan Calhanoglu is likely to miss at least a couple of games due to injury.

As MilanNews reports, at the moment it is unknown how long Calhanoglu will be out with a suspected ankle sprain but he did leave the training ground on crutches earlier on Tuesday and will undergo a test today.

Pioli will be without the Turkey international for Thursday night’s Europa League opener against Celtic, but it does mean that the Rossoneri boss will be able to test Brahim Diaz again as a trequartista against having tried him in that position against Spezia before the international break.

The Spaniard is experiencing a good moment having netted in the 2-0 away win over Crotone and having scored a brace with the Spanish U21 national team against the Faroe Islands.

Should Calhanoglu need more than a game or two out, it means that a natural replacement is waiting in the wings and is raring to go. Brahim can play all the roles behind the centre-forward, but his natural role is as a playmaker behind the striker, looking for space and trying to cause panic with his low centre of gravity, quick turns and tricky feet.

  1. It is time for Brahim to show his potential. Look forward to see his runs and assist for Ibra in upcoming matches. For now, bring home 3 points from Glasgow. Forza Milan!
