MN: Centre-back hoping for Milan redemption – two options for his future on the table

Defender Mattia Caldara has a month to convince head coach Stefano Pioli that he deserves to be part of the plans, according to a report.

MilanNews reports how Milan paid €37m three summers ago to sign him from Juventus, and he still has a book value of €15m, so two solutions have emerged. The first is that he stays at the club, but he would be the sixth central defender available to head coach Stefano Pioli, along with Tomori, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Gabbia and Kalulu.

An extra player, with a fair amount of experience, wouldn’t hurt, but of course the player himself has to be willing to accept a reduced role again. He only played nine games played in all competitions last season with Atalanta (132 minutes total), which meant

Given that he is under contract until 2023, a loan spell seems to be more likely, which could benefit both the defender and the club’s coffers in case of sale in a year’s time. His future, will almost entirely depend on his will and his physical form.
