MN: Gabbia returns to Spain but is awaiting the green light from Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Matteo Gabbia returned to Spain this morning but it might only be a fleeting visit as he is waiting for word from Villarreal and AC Milan regarding his future, according to a report.

With Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu facing an extended period on the sidelines, Milan have been left with Simon Kjaer as the only fit centre-back option while waiting for Marco Pellegrino to fully return to the fold.

As a result, a number of different sources have reported that the management are looking to bring in two centre-backs to help fix the numerical emergency, and that one of them could be Gabbia’s return from loan.

As MilanNews reports, a photo taken at Bergamo airport shows that Gabbia left for Valencia this morning, but he is awaiting communications regarding his return to Milan. Almost everything is now completed meaning the Italian should have his loan spell at Villarreal ended early.

The operation should however close in January in order to have all the documentation submitted smoothly. After spending the Christmas holidays in Italy, Gabbia is returning to Spain awaiting the final green light to return to the team that he came through the youth academy at.
