There is a late selection doubt for Stefano Pioli in view of tonight’s game against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, according to a report.
As of this morning it seemed as though Pioli had settled on his side and that the only slight alteration might be Alessandro Florenzi playing at left-back if Theo Hernandez had not recovered from a blow to the foot.
However, MilanNews are now reporting that the Milan head coach now has to resolve a doubt about the defensive department because there is still an ongoing battle between Malick Thiaw and Simon Kjaer.
The German and the Dane are both competing for a starting spot alongside Matteo Gabbia in the heart of the defence, and it could well be a decision he makes at the last minute.
Everything else is confirmed though, with Mike Maignan obviously in goal, Florenzi and Theo Hernandez as full-backs, Yacine Adli and Ismael Bennacer as the double pivot and then Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rafael Leao behind Olivier Giroud.
It could be that Pioli is pondering how Lazio might line up, given some sources have Ciro Immobile starting up front while others believe it will be Valentin Castellanos, and they are two players with different strengths.
Kjaer over Thiaw every day of the week. Thiaw can singlehandedly ruin games for us and has 3 times already this season.

In what what universe is kjær not a better player than thiaw ? Kjær rarely makes mistakes and when milan is letting the least goals in its most often with him in the defense. Ony things i can see thiaw being better is in speed and the fact that he can further develope but contrary to kjær thiaw makes a lot of unacceptable erors time after time. Dont get me wrong he has a lot of promise but kjær brings calmness and leadership to the team whereas thiaw doesnt do that yet.
Ok but while he is a better defender mentally and with a wealth of experience, his physical shape can not support it, Martin.

Well he might not be fit to play as much as previously but he is nevertheless still a better defender than thiaw.
Strictly speaking of beverages here but I’ll drink beers and whisky any day over drinking champagne which could just as well be water from a toilet bowl as i see it 😛
See the Monza game 2 weeks ago. Or the Juventus game this season. Or the Inter game. Thiaw was worse in those games than Kjaer has ever been even on his worst day.
Thiaw is very error prone and I prefer Kjaer over him today as well.
I like Tomori – Kalulu under Pioli who needs 2 lightning fast CBs to not be too exposed.
