MN: Milan begin to probe other targets as fears grow over Ibrahimovic

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan leadership are ‘beginning to look around’ as doubts grow over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to the club, a reliable source claims.

The Rossoneri have been strongly linked with a move for the Swede and are awaiting his response after tabling a contract offer, according to multiple outlets.

However Milan are not alone in their pursuit, as Napoli continue to be linked with a move for the former PSG man, while Arena Napoli claimed on Tuesday that Everton officials have put together a lucrative package to try and lure Zlatan back to England.

According to Anto Vitiello of MilanNews.it, Zlatan’s answer to the Milan hierarchy is now late. The club has handed over to Mino Raiola a very advantageous economic proposal (according to the club) for the 38-year-old.

The knot remains that Ibrahimovic wants an 18 month deal while the Rossoneri would are offering 6 plus 12 based on a top four finish.

In addition, the striker is believed to be waiting to understand how the situation at Napoli will evolve now that Gennaro Gattuso has been made head coach.

In order not to be caught unprepared, Milan have begun to probe other players, Vitiello adds. There was an exploratory phone call with Juve to understand the situation of Mario Mandzukic, who is struggling for game time under Gennaro Gattuso.

The Croatia veteran has a contract until 2021 and earns €6m net per year, too much for Milan, but he is considered a viable alternative – though not the only one.
