MN: Milan must leave Napoli clash ‘without regrets’ amid top-four crescendo

A big one awaits AC Milan at Stadio Maradona tonight, taking on Napoli who are just one point behind in the standings.

While the Scudetto race appears done and dusted after Inter’s huge win last night, which certainly sent a signal to everyone else, the battle for second place is very much alive. For Milan, after sitting relatively comfortably in that position, there is now some turbulence.

As highlighted by MilanNews, tonight is a huge game for the Rossoneri that, in many ways, can be likened to the away clash against Lazio. They left that with a lot of regrets after what was a weak performance, and it’s something that cannot happen again.

All in, now or never

Allegri has highlighted several times that Milan deserve the points they have, while the ‘what ifs’ should be left at home. Thinking about games they should have won gets you nowhere, but equally, those thoughts are sometimes justified.

Therefore, especially in this season finale, it’s so important for the Rossoneri to give their all in every single game and avoid regrets. The fact remains that the top-four battle is a tight one, as Manuel Del Vecchi continues in the MilanNews piece, and Milan cannot afford to slip up.

As Allegri said in his press conference on Saturday: “Football is fantastic, but seven months of work can be undone in 15 days. We have to keep our eyes on those behind, also because returning to the Champions League is in our hands, just as the Scudetto is in Inter’s hands.”

It might sound like very obvious things to say, but it just goes to show that Allegri is focused and clear-headed. After all, every point matters at this stage of the season and losing touch with reality, i.e. flying too high, can be the death of you.

The game against Napoli is crucial in this sense. While the most important thing is to not lose, thus keeping the Partenopei at one point’s distance at least, a win would send a huge signal to the rest of the league. Four points would be a comfortable cushion, let’s put it that way.

Miklan will have to be united, confident, and ready to fight to the death, just as they did in the reverse fixture at San Siro, when, despite a red card, they still managed to see out their lead and clinch all three points. Put shortly, they left the stadium without regrets.
