Mattia Caldara, believe it or not, is still an AC Milan player and the Rossoneri are trying to change that matter. However, it’s proving to be quite difficult as no club has made an offer for the centre-back.
Caldara joined Milan from Juventus in a deal worth €38m back in 2018, with Leonardo Bonucci going the other way, but his career since has been riddled with injuries. For the Rossoneri, in fact, he has only made two official appearances.
He spent last season on loan at Spezia but because they were relegated, they never exercised the €3m buy-out clause in the centre-back’s contract. Therefore, Milan are now faced with the difficult task of finding him a new club.
Difficult indeed, as not a single club has come forward to make an offer for Caldara, according to MilanNews. It remains to be seen what will happen but Milan could perhaps let him go for free just to get rid of his wages.
Just keep him. He’s fine as a backup and any offer we get will be worth nothing.
I agree, he was more than adequate for the teams he has been on loan with the last few years. Played 71 games total for the three teams he’s been on. A solid fifth choice player who knows the league. I am not sure why Milan has never given him a chance since his injury.
Why not go for Bonucci!!, Great cover of Kjaar leaves
Wait long enough and someone will say: “Too old. too slow, injury prone”.
You want to paid him 4M gross to be 5th CB? Are you mad or on med?
Milans Phil jones
End his contract early. We need to sign that French defender we will linked with.
In italy if you italian you out of luck
Only foreign players
Barcelona on the other hand raise majority of their players from youth academy
Not true.
Out of the 24 players registered by Barcelona as of July 29, I am able to find only 7 who went through La Masia in their youth careers.
The rest came from all over the world, including some from other Spanish clubs (e.g., Marcos Alonso, who went through the Real Madrid youth academy).
The current state of top level clubs in the top level leagues of the world is such that no team can have the majority of their team come from just their youth academy
I remember him and Conti, they were two of most promising young Italian defender and a wingback when we got them. Injuries got them bad unfortunately.
