MN: Pioli and Abate take Milan deep in Europe – the strength of the project is evident

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have enjoyed double success in Europe this season as both the senior team and the Primavera have reached the semi-finals in their respective competitions.

MilanNews write how the 2-1 aggregate win over Napoli means Milan have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League 16 years after the last time. Meanwhile, Primavera will face Hajduk Split to play for a place in the final of the UEFA Youth League in Switzerland this afternoon.

It is perhaps an indication regarding the strength of the project, one that is based around acquiring and coaching young, strong, quality players with the potential to become future stars.

The first team and Primavera share the same philosophy: if it weren’t for Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – aged 36 and 41 respectively – the Rossoneri would be one of the youngest teams in the Italian league.

The same goes for Abate’s side, who are one of the youngest sides in the Primavera as they have several players that were born in 2006.

A spot in the Youth League final awaits today but the youth sector have already gone as far as any Milan side have, while reaching the Champions League semis for the first time in 16 years – when the Rossoneri won their seventh European Cup – shows that something must be going right.

  1. Are there any Primavera players who might be ready to contribute with the first team next season?
I know they are in the UCL youth semis but they also not save and might get relegated, again, in the Primavera league.

    1. I believe in the coming years some of them will have a decent opportunity of gettng promoted to the first team but most of them will propably need to get loaned out first but as the article also proclaims we actually have a very young primavera team with a lot of 17 year olds,
Of the younger ones i can see Stalmach and cuenca maybe get a nod in the next couiple of years. traore if he renews his contract. coubis and bozolan and hilali in contention as well.
Whether we will see any of them in the first team next season might be a different matter but i think the club sees great hopes in those players mentioned above.

  2. Its ridiculous that we still have suporters screaming for pioli and maldinis heads as the proof are there for all to see that we actually have managed ti achieve something incredible in recent years. Imagine what they would be able to do with a bit more cash and a stronger squad.
Either way im confident of our future regardless if we actually qualify for cl as i would deem it a bump on the road considering we already by qualifying for the cl semis can see us earn as much cash as we could have expected for two years in the competition and still there would still be possible to earn a decent ammount of cash in the europa league.
Financially though it would be a great shame not be able to capitalize on this seasons financial success. The biggest issue for me though would be on the sporting front and in the event if some players would ask to leave the club.
