MN: Positive news emerges after Kjaer undergoes medical checks

By Oliver Fisher -

Some good news has emerged regarding the fitness of Simon Kjaer after he came off yesterday during Denmark’s draw against Switzerland in a friendly.

As MilanNews write, there was some apprehension regarding Kjaer’s condition. The Rossoneri centre-back, who took to the pitch as captain with Denmark in the friendly match against Noah Okafor’s Switzerland, was forced to leave the pitch around the hour mark due to a suspected muscle problem.

Today the centre-back underwent an MRI scan and luckily for Stefano Pioli and his staff no injuries of any kind were detected. In addition, the player will now remain available to the Danish coach for the next friendly match.

Kjaer had reassured everyone after the match by claiming that the decision to come off in the second half was more to do with preventing an injury rather than any strain.

“I hope it’s not that serious. I felt a bit of discomfort and I just wanted to be on the safe side. It’s late in the season, so we’re also trying to think a little ahead and prefer not to take risks,” he said.

“I don’t expect it to be anything bad at all. If it had been a qualifying match or the European Championship I wouldn’t have come off.

“Will I stay in the training camp with Denmark? I think so, but now we have to see how the situation will evolve, but this it was my first sensation.”

It is good news for Pioli who probably feared having a stretched defence again, given Pierre Kalulu will have to spend yet another lengthy period on the sidelines after suffering a ligament problem during last weekend’s win over Hellas Verona.
