MN: Probable XIs for Monza vs. Milan – Origi with a job to do

By Euan Burns -

Belgian striker Divock Origi is set to be tasked with leading the AC Milan front line on Saturday evening against Monza, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, Rossoneri coach Stefano Pioli will take this chance to give French striker Olivier Giroud a rest and will trust Origi to bring the goals at the U-Power Stadium.

Origi is yet to have any meaningful impact at Milan since arriving on a free transfer in the summer, but he will fancy his chances against Monza with Rafael Leao and Brahim Diaz supporting him in attack.

Another change will see Junior Messias play on the right wing instead of Davide Calabria, whilst Fikayo Tomori will make his return from injury to start in the back three.

Milan News think that Luca Caldirola will start in the Monza defence although other reports suggest it will be Marlon. Andrea Petagna will be leading the line.

Monza predicted XI vs Milan (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Caldirola, Pablo Mari, Izzo; Donati, Rovella, Sensi, Ciurria; Pessina, Caprari; Petagna

AC Milan predicted XI vs Monza (3-4-2-1): Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw; Messias, Tonali, Krunic, Theo; Brahim Diaz, Leao; Origins.

  1. Looks like Pioli is trying to straddle between 3-4-2-1 and 4-2-3-1 by including Messias. The squad can easily shift between the two formations. Not sure if that’s a positive thing or negative.

  2. People shouldn’t not put Messias in this lineup. We have Calabria, Alexis, Dest and Florenzi who can play this right wing back role so why is he still thinking of playing Messias who isn’t strong enough

    1. Calabria is injured
      Florenzi isn’t fully recovered
Alexis needs a rest after Tottenham match
Dest isn’t any better than Messias
