MN: Sportiello and Pellegrino will return to training with injuries healed

By Ben Dixon -

It is no secret that AC Milan’s continued injury crisis amongst their defenders has hindered their Scudetto and Champions League campaigns. However, they have been given a boost today with the news of two returns.

MilanNews writes that the Rossoneri will be aided by the returns of Marco Sportiello and Marco Pellegrino. The pair have both been absent in recent weeks after the former suffered a calf injury and the latter suffering from a fractured foot. However, they are now deemed to have recovered and will begin training once again.

Recently, Stefano Pioli has had no other option than to look to his Primavera setup for defenders, mainly Jan-Carlo Simic, whilst also using his senior players in unfamiliar roles, such as Theo Hernandez. Although both have shown their abilities, the 58-year-old will welcome the news.

However, the news acts as somewhat of a silver lining rather than an absolute positive, given this weekend’s additions to the injury list: Noah Okafor and Tommaso Pobega, are both at risk of being absent for an extended period.

    1. This question will be adequately answered by Pioli. He demands a lot of physicality from the players but he does not prepare them well enough for their tasks. Milan Lab has done a respectable job cleaning up behind Pioli. Bennacer speedy recovery is an example, we used to expect him to be back in late January. Players will not play if they think there is something wrong with their bodies. There is no reason for Milan Lab to fake these recoveries, the players would not cooperate with them in rushing their returns. Absolutely no point.
