MN: Sportiello out for two months – the October 19 curse strikes Milan again

By Oliver Fisher -

History suggests that being an AC Milan goalkeeper on October 19th is not a lucky day, at least based on what has happened in the last two years.

As MilanNews reports, this afternoon the announcement of an injury suffered by Marco Sportiello arrived and the former Atalanta player will have to sit out for around two months due to an injury to the medial twin of his left calf.

It was exactly one year ago that Mike Maignan suffered the second problem with the medial twin of his left calf with a soleus injury, which kept him out for a chunk of action as well.

It left Milan with a problem in 2022 and it has left them with an even bigger one this year. Maignan is not available to face Juventus due to suspension while his back-up Sportiello is now sidelined, meaning third choice Antonio Mirante is likely to get the nod.

    1. You don’t know why they don’t put some kid in goal?
      Really?
I could try to explain it to you but after that statement I doubt that you would have the ability to understand.

  1. Why was Milan’s preparation team and medical team never put in question ?
Aside from an inflammation in the spine, Sportiello never had in injury while with Atalanta. With us, he’s already out for 2 months.
Like we do have depth this season, but it starts to become challenging

    1. Um, based on his performance in last match of last season, he is unconvincing in the minutes he played…

Hopefully I’m wrong but Imo he is not the best 3rd GK in the world.

  2. It’s a good feeling that we have an experience goalie as third choice but our medical team needs some questions. Why is that most of our players, especially, those who hadly had injury in their previous clubs, come to Milan and play 6 months rest due to injury for the rest of the season.
