MN: Time is quickly running out for Milan – two renewals must lead to two more

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been exactly a month since hundreds of thousands of Milan fans lined the streets to celebrate the Scudetto, and there has been minimal movement on the transfer front since.

The sale of the club to RedBird Capital dominated the headlines but the market seems to have stalled, and with preseason training set to resume on July 4 there are fans demanding answers regarding some issues that need tackling.

MilanNews writes how the first topic that is arousing confusion is how directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been allowed to get within a week of their contract expiry. Of course it would be a surprise if they left, but they are a reference points for the fans and for the issue to drag on for so long is concering, and it might also have affected their ability to operate concretely on the market.

There is also the directive to tackle the renewals of key players who a) deserve a reward for their part in the Scudetto win and b) are attracting interest, namely Rafael Leao and Ismael Bennacer. Both the Portuguese and the Algerian are within two years of their contract expiry, so once the Maldini and Massara extensions are confirmed, the player renewals must be addressed.

  1. How could it be possible to renew the contracts of two important figures to be so difficult. The new owner seems to be wasting time. If they really love Milan, 24 hours is a long time to renew the contracts of Maldini and Massara. Too much nonsense from the RedBird.
