MN: Why Pioli has not yet called upon Adli, Thiaw and Vranckx regularly

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli may soon call upon some of the players that arrived in the summer but have not yet had much playing time.

MilanNews begin a report by stating that the team spirit is what shone through above all in last night’s 2-0 defeat against Chelsea. The Rossoneri did not fold when two goals down and a man down inside the first half against the Blues and in actual fact could have scored goals through Olivier Giroud and Sergino Dest.

It can be hard for players to establish themselves such a cemented group which are united in values, ideas and spirit, which is why the new arrivals – with the exception of Charles De Ketelaere – have not been used much yet.

Aster Vranckx at the moment is the player ahead of the others. The Belgian has been doing well both on a technical and attitude level, and in the near future he will certainly be ready to get more minutes, perhaps even in a more attacking position than his usual.

As for Yacine Adli, at the moment he is the one most penalised by the injury situation. He is considered an attacking midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder, but from what has emerged over the last few weeks he still does not have the kind of pace and intensity that the coach asks for his aggressive football.

He has obviously not been completely written off either by Pioli or by the staff, but in a Milan side that pays so much attention to balance on the pitch, the absence of Saelemaekers also weighs on Adli, who thus loses a teammate who can “support him” from a tactical point of view.

The same thing that can also be said for Malick Thiaw, as the Germany U21 is considered a very good prospect, but he is still considered too slow at the moment in terms of pace.

  1. Lacking pace and intensity? Bullshit. Adli has shown much more of that than CdK so far this season…and Krunic or Pobega for that matter.

  2. Pioli should stop all these rubbish and give these guys a chance to display their talent. How do u know how good a player is when u have not played him?

I wonder how nice it is for us to make excuses rather than trying. Adli has shown us during preseason games that he can play in the team. The integration process of our coach looks like these guys never played on the pitch in their life b4. Introduce Adli, Vrancx gradually in-between games and see how they pan out before we can now talk about how good they are.
In my humble opinion, Adli can add something positive in the attack than Rade Krunic.
    Forza Milan 💪💪💪

  3. There is no reason for Adli not getting a run, he’s bigger than Diaz and works harder. Thiaw is slow, but he’s quicker than Gabbia and he has what our centre backs lack – height. That neither has been given a chance, and will probably play in the Coppa Italia, suggests there are issues in terms of what Maldini and Massara want and what Pioli want.

  4. Đội bóng cần làm mới. Không thể ra rân 1 đội hinh trong cả mùa. Hãy cho họ sai và sửa sai. Đừng an toàn quá mà khô cứng.

  5. This has got to be the most are you kidding me excuse I’d have to hear “too slow”. Did the scouts not know what they were seeing ? The truth is Pioli doesn’t try new things and thus the new players have to suffer even if they are better than what is. How fast must Adli be ? We could have just opted to sign Usain bolt since we are looking for Olympic runners.
Worst piece of excuse I never want to hear

    1. Every coach has different standard. We need to be patient, because we bought raw talent. Remember Kalulu was barely play in the first season. Even Tonali and Leao had to start from the bench too. At least if they didn’t grow as expected, we still can sold him for money such as Hauge

      1. I agree with you.but what is happening and the way milan is playing now if there is no change i see is out of the champions league and out of the top four in the league.milan total lack creativity on the pitch.also on being aggressive is giroud aggressive ?also did they buy this players for next season?

        1. I have been on this “creativity” stuff for months now, we have no pattern of play, just the aggressive and one player brilliance to win matches. This lack of creativity or pattern if you like is part of why CDK seems useless at the moment (Take it or leave it). You see one player trying to dribble his way past 5 players. No quick interchange of passes and all. I am a fan but the truth is a lot is left to be desired in our open play, and this is why we are struggling in European competitions.

  6. If you played football before you will know that training doesn’t get players to that pace and intensity they are talking about. Pioli need to give these guys the chance to grow by getting some minutes in the matches. Kalulu didn’t just shine through training but it came when he was given the chance. If Adli is slow and lacks the aggression, then am sorry, the coach is not seeing well.

    1. “If you played football before you will know that training doesn’t get players to that pace and intensity they are talking about. ”

Depends what you/they mean by “intensity”. That could be a mental thing as well and THAT is easily fixed with training. But pace isn’t something you can increase with a couple of months of training. That takes waaaaay longer – and the results won’t be anywhere near remarkable.

  7. How can someone said Yacine Adli is too slow, what of CDK then?
Malick Thiaw is much better than Gabbia. The way i see Pioli with him Milan will be another Local champions, but let him know that Milan is not Lazio and Fiorentina we are Milan we are use to playing and delivering in big stages of football, he is not smart at all

  8. Lol, people rant about support for Pioli, but let be honest, Pioli is a mediocre coach, I know people here will leap to his defense that he won a trophy, the think that irks me about Pioli. he never fields his strongest Xl when playing against a relatively strong team. he rarely gives new players a chance to prove their worth even when the game is wrapped up. all good coaches seeks improvements to its team, RW has been an issue for Milan what did Pioli do to solve that problem absolutely nothing. He keeps playing Salad-man, that scores one goal and provide one assist in a while season, that shocking. he relies on krunic as if Krunic is that versatile, Junior is too inconsistent, it high time to field new players a create competition amongst Milan players!!!

    1. People like you lack serious respect. He won the Scudetto after a decade with a bunch of mediocre youngsters and a few talented one which he himself groomed, which resulted in you finally coming out of your cave, and this is how you repay him.

Your claim “he rarely gives new players a chance to prove their worth” is particularly golden. Literally the entire squad disproves that claim.

He is not in charge of the transfer market and he certainly is not shitting money for the clubs coffers. So Pioli is not a mediocre coach, you are a mediocre fan.

  9. We should loan Adli in January so as not to stunt his progress, because it’s clear that he won’t get playing time over CDK and Diaz, and we have to respect Pioli’s choices. There will be less matches to play from January onwards, too so there’s no sense in him staying beyond.

Vranckx and Thiago should stay. Vranckx will get his minutes and as for Thiaw he should spend this season to get a sense of the tactics at Milan, then they will make a decision on him at the end of the season, whether it’s be loan, sell or keep instead of Gabbia.

    1. Listen to yourself or read your own comment loan Adil out before giving him a chance, but keep the other new arrivals we ve not seen play before, your decision is making is baffling, how am I disrespectful if I want the best for Milan?

      1. There is a coach who is doing a brilliant job. It’s his choice. As long as he’s getting results all you can do is support his decisions.

People also wanted Hauge over Rebic and Leao. What you want and what is best for Milan could be very different things.

        1. Pioli is doing job, but not a brilliant one. reason Salad-man, Junior and krynic failed in the RW position, its time to try maybe Origi, Rebic or Diaz. perhaps we Milan will get the W’s, when Pioli tried kessie or Krunic at AM . You don’t see me complaining reason Diaz wasn’t great there thus a change is needed, likewise the RW a change is needed, can you imagine if all leao can give Milan in a see in is just one goal one assist, what do you think will happen to Milan, we need
Milan to be firing on all cylinders!!!

          1. Yeah and I suppose Pioli want Milan to fire on one cylinder! Do you think Saelemaekers and Messias are his ideal right wingers? LMAO

Milan have had no budget for some time and he has to make do. That is not his fault. He works with what they give him and considering what they have given him, he has done a brilliant job.
