Morata frustrated after loss against a ‘top-level team’ again: “There’s always something”

Alvaro Morata believes AC Milan have been unable to find any consistency this season because they have done well in certain areas but neglected others.

Milan lost further ground not only in the race for the Scudetto but also in the battle for the top four as they were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Friday night.

The home side took the lead early on through Charles De Ketelaere’s header from a free-kick – one Paulo Fonseca believes should have been a foul – but then Alvaro Morata equalised before the break.

When it looked like a draw was on the cards, Ademola Lookman popped up at the far post to tap in a header from a cross and extend La Dea’s streak to nine wins in a row.

Morata spoke to Sky after the full-time whistle to analyse what was a difficult night for the team despite his goal, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How does the post-match disappointment feel?

“In general for everything. We knew that Atalanta are a great team. We were defending well and we conceded two goals from set pieces which is not usually a weak point.

“We can only correct the mistakes and move forward: we have many objectives, competitions and soon we also have the Supercoppa.”

Why is there a lack of consistency?

“Because we have to play against top-level teams. If you don’t pay attention in every situation, then there is the risk of losing. We conceded two goals from set pieces and if you are not careful in all this it becomes more complicated.

“In the end we don’t maintain the same line because there’s always something. When we are good in some parts of the game, we are penalised in others. Mental problem? No, it is to work on all the parts that are part of football. We train well and we make an effort.”

  1. Blame your boss, after fire Maldini, and don’t do anything serious, hired dumb coach, stupid players. I never satisfied with any acmilan games, thanks God sometimes they win.

  2. After Mr Puli out, Milan look like seri B team. Too scary to attack atalanta defense. Leao lock down and fofana to cover 2 positions, I guess RLC no use. This winter Milan must buy 1 playmaker or try from primavera.

Atalanta too superior in this match, precision football and Gasperini teach the American Burger why MoneyBall it’s failed. Hahahaha 🤣

    1. Indeed, the drop off when Pulisic left the field was blatant. Leao played well and Morata scored a great goal..Emerson’s first touch is a pass and his second touch is a foul…his positioning is woeful..if to have Bellanova as RB….

1-1 would have been a decent result against a good Atalanta, it felt we were cooked once they bought their subs on around 75 mins, wr don’t have that level of quality. The other noticeable thing fist half especially was just how good Atalanta’s movement was in and around our box, their pass and movement….I do think we may have missed the boat with Gasperini….

      1. “Leao played well”

Did he really? One good pass during the whole 90mins and it’s “playing well”? I’m not blaming him for the loss but saying he played well is like saying Emerson is a world-class defender.

        1. I though Leao looked lively throughout and was our main outlet transitioning into attack. I think what important is to realise that without him where we would be… he always carried the ball well and looks to make the difference

          1. Couldn’t get past anyone in the second half and stopped running every time the pass wasn’t coming straight at his feet. Completely MIA.

    1. Milan must work on defending set-pieces,the two goals Atalanta scored was courtesy of careless defending . But again, the best way to defend is to attack Milan simply didn’t convince enough in the attack line .

  3. This dude is just average, guys. Never has much production, why not he score a second goal? Instead he opened his mouth after the game. And, he dives a lot. Never his fan

Someone with a Milan jersey profile pic said this: “They will fix the mistakes in winter break.” How? get another Morata or Tammy?? /haha

    1. I watched many games of Milan played ball back to Mainan (vs Juve, Atalanta and many more)…very boring…with this style maybe we will finish 7 or below on May.
