Moretto: Atletico Madrid make contact with Milan transfer target

By Euan Burns -

Atletico Madrid are exploring the possibility of signing AC Milan target Youssouf Fofana who currently plays for AS Monaco.

As reported by Matteo Moretto on the Relevo Twitch channel (via Milan Zone), the Spanish side think that Fofana could be a smart addition to their squad and are exploring the possibility of getting the deal done.

Fofana only has one year left on his contract which means that Monaco are only asking for around €25m for the Frenchman’s services, despite him undoubtedly being worth more money than that.

Atletico Madrid have contacted the player’s entourage to see if he would have any interest in joining the La Liga side, but they are yet to try and strike a deal with Monaco themselves.

He is not the only name that they are considering a move for when it comes to bolstering the midfield, so Milan are still in a better position to sign Fofana given they have already agreed on personal terms with him.

The expectation is that Milan need to raise their bid by €4-5m in order for Monaco to let the move go ahead, and then Milan can focus on other positions where a signing is needed such as right-back and centre-back.

  1. I hope we don’t miss out on this as the guy might be a great addition to the squad…. God pls, don’t let us fail this attempt cos of 2-3m🙆 Milan!!

  2. Here we go. Again. We miss a prime target due to a few million euros. The second best option are rarely second best, and in this case most likely not good enough for a second place in the league.

  3. Bro just actually offer the right amount it’s not that much especially for a good player like him. If we lose him fire the technical director

  4. LOLOLOLO

Here we go again….like it’s really a surprise??

How poetic would it be to lose another target yet again due to the cheapness of ownership/management…..

What a club!! Thx Gerry!!! 🤡

    1. yes, like Zirkzee, Thuram and Taremi…scheduled in someone’s imagination before they close a deal because they have inadequate valuations of players and don’t understand how the transfer market works. When there are opportunities to close a deal at a better value than it would normally be to secure an asset, you don’t delay the process with negotiations. Pay the asked price and move forward. 4 days wasted is the difference between a player having 2 to 3 more sessions with the team to be ready for the first whistle of the season. It isn’t worth lagging behind for 4 million euros.

  5. I still believe Milan management were waiting for this. Optics that they are trying without having to actually follow through and spend the money.

  6. And to think they spent more than 20 millions on Reijnders, Musah and Chuk last season. Now they are stuttering at this proven and badly needed player.

Nothing new. Luckily, after last summer, my expectations are close to 0 with these Wall Street hee-haws so I wouldn’t be surprised if they “fail”
