Moretto: FIFA block loan move for Milan defender – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

It turns out that Marco Pellegrino will not be able to leave AC Milan during the January transfer window as the clubs involved have not received the necessary clearance.

Pellegrino has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan before the January mercato shuts, and Gianluca Di Marzio reported last night that Salernitana were closing in on a deal.

According to what is being reported by Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Pellegrino’s move to Salernitana has definitively collapsed as we head towards the final 24 hours of the January window.

The journalist states that FIFA did not authorise the loan because the defender played for both Milan and Platense during the current season.

The green light was expected to arrive from the governing body but it did not, and therefore Pellegrino will remain at Milan because he is not permitted to register for another club.

The ruling is that a player cannot play for more than two clubs in a season, but the Rossoneri believed the deal would go through because the South American and European seasons do not line up time wise.

The season has just begun in Argentina as opposed to the August start for European leagues, so the parties involved in the negotiation thought his time at Club Atletico Platense would count as the season prior.

  1. So just hold onto him then, especially with us not bringing in another defender on loan. We need the cover for the injured guys. Give the kid some minutes.

  2. Why loan him and pay wage for another foreign deadwood when we they can use this kid???

“bUt hE NeEdS GaMe TiMe!” No he needs to settle with us and work for minutes.
