Tuttosport: Mystery surrounds Adli, Vranckx and Thiaw – Pioli’s thoughts on each

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan welcomed three players during the summer window who have barely seen the field since their arrival, namely Yacine Adli , Aster Vranckx and Malick Thiaw.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) underlines today, this is not because Stefano Pioli has deemed them to already be below the levels required, but it is merely the phase of a growth process that the three players are experiencing at Milanello.

They are young and have only just arrived, but in the coming weeks their deployment could increase. Vranckx – who arrived on loan from Wolfsburg – is the player out of the trio who has been used most, coming off the bench in the recent 2-0 win over Juventus as an example.

According to what filters from Milanello, the Belgian U21 captain is the most ready player at the moment both for his ability to learn the concepts taught by Pioli and also because of his technical and physical characteristics. The Belgian is a classic box-to-box midfielder who combines quality with work rate, and can be excellent alternative to Pobega and Krunic.

The case of Adli is the one that is a little more confusing to the fans because he showed his excellent technical and creative skills in preseason.

The paper states that the Franco-Algerian does not have a real place within Pioli’s system, because he would be an ideal No.10 or a box-to-box midfielder but there are plenty of other players for those roles. In addition, the 21-year-old still has to get used to the rhythms but it working hard.

Finally, we come to the young defender Thiaw whose absence thus far can be ascribed to a matter of rhythm. The German U21 international is yet to make a single appearance but at Milanello there is the conviction that he is a big talent that needs handling carefully and must learn from those around him.

He is a player with great physicality and though he does not have the pace and speed of Tomori and Kalulu, he is working with them to get fully up to speed and understand the defensive mechanisms.

  1. This is all bs. You get into the rhythm by playing. The real reason for me, seems to be that the other players are more familiar with the movements required by the tactical set up of Pioli. But again, this cannot be fixed unless they play. In other words: he does not find them good enough yet.

  2. considering piolis eng isnt all that good( his words) i can see a reason why players might need more time than we figure to get integrated into the team.. think at this lvl people shoul be fluent 😀

  3. The next 2 games against Verona and monza we must give them a chance to get some minutes so we see how they can do because we can’t use same players over and over again

  4. Adil is better than Krunic. He showed a glimpse of what he can do. We must continue to push for his inclusion. Giampaolo did same thing to Bennacer by playing Biglia ahead of him.

  5. Sometimes I don’t understand Pioli at all… I feel that Adli will turn out like Paqueta!
He will leave us and will blossom and we will regret giving him a chance!
Paqueta would have been our answer as a RW or an AM ….
