Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has revealed that Thiago Silva still has the club in his heart, and backed the fans to make a difference against Chelsea tomorrow.

Nesta was interviewed on Milan TV on the eve of the Champions League return match between Milan and Chelsea which will be played tomorrow evening at San Siro. The Rossoneri need a response after the 3-0 defeat last week and Nesta believes it will come, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On the atmosphere of the Champions League: “When there was a Champions League game you felt it, the afternoon before the match was different. It was a special thing, at the time it was something more. The opponents felt that shirt and when they played against us they knew that it would have been complicated because we wore not only a shirt but a story. Milan also represented for years the fear that the others had.”

On the games in England: “In England you knew that the first twenty minutes were played with a helmet on and you were going to be under pressure. But then you knew that the game would change when the opponents would slow down. Some players and teams know how to play these kinds of games because they understand and are not afraid.”

On the San Siro: “In Milan with 75 thousand fans, the other team wear the helmet. As a reference game I say Manchester-Milan when we lost at Old Trafford 3-2 but they put on a pretty big helmet at San Siro!”

On Thiago Silva: “I hadn’t met him for a long time, we talked about everything and also about Milan. He remains very attached also because it was the club that launched him as a great international player.”

On Maldini: “He’s doing pretty well, come on (laughs). No no, great. I’ve always said he is a special person, a person who never seeks excuses and is never banal. A person who has an higher than average intelligence.”

On the characteristics of Milan: “Milan showed that they press high and to do that you have to have forwards pushing high to close passing lanes. This is a characteristic of the Milan side that won, as well as having fast centre-backs. When you’ve got 30 or 40 metres behind you, Tomori and Kalulu’s speed are important.”

On his years in the Rossoneri: “A Roman who lived in Milan for 10 years. I was better than at home. I will always be fond of them and we hope to relive some nights like what they used to be.”
