CM: New Leao renewal talks planned – salary distance minimal as Maldini aims to avoid sale

By Oliver Fisher -

Negotiations are continuing over the renewal of Rafael Leao and there is now a minimal distance over salary, according to a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, the international break will provide a chance for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to properly reconnect with Rafael Leao’s entourage and they hope to take a fundamental step forward.

Leao has always expressed his desire to remain with the Rossoneri but as time ticks by those intentions must be turned into signatures. Milan have offered €6m net per season which with bonuses can hit €7m, while Leao through his agents is asking for €7.5m fixed.

The distance between the parties is not huge and in the next round of talks with Leao’s lawyer Ted Dimvula there will be other obstacles discussed too such as the €15m owed to Sporting CP. The Portuguese forward expects help from Milan in the form of a signing bonus, but at the moment the management do not seem open to that.

Less pressing is the issue relating to the commissions to be paid to the various protagonists in the negotiation, including agent Jorge Mendes. New contacts are expected in the coming days, but if a renewal doesn’t come before the summer a sale will be the only option.
