Official: AC Milan confirm sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have officially confirmed the sale of Sandro Tonali for Newcastle United for what is being widely reported to be a club-record fee.

Via a tweet on their social media, Newcastle announced that they are delighted to announce the signing of Tonali from Milan. The 23-year-old joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee and has agreed a contract at St. James’ Park initially until 2028.

Meanwhile, Milan have confirmed on their official website that Tonali has completed his move. The club thanked the midfielder for the ‘three splendid years together’ and wished him ‘the very best in his professional and personal future’.

According to what Fabrizio Romano is reporting, Tonali joins Newcastle on €70m deal with add-ons included, while Milan will also receive 10% of the proceeds from any future resale of the Italy international.

It’s record sale for Milan, while Tonali becomes most expensive Italian player in the history of the game.

  1. We always support you Sandro, may you rise in Newcastle and win Premier League. And win every match in UCL except when facing Milan. Forza Milan!!!

  2. Best of wishes to tonali and hope he one day comes back to us and fullfill his real destiny.
Cardinale on the other hand may he be cursed by a gypsy 😀

  3. Cardinale and his management are hopeless… you don’t start selling the soul of a team. Not to mentioned we could’ve gotten a lot more ( If the Milan Management know what they were doing) in comparison to what West ham is asking for Declan Rice, as we all know Tonali is the better player, between the two. We wish you all the best Tonali.

  4. The blessed Maldini himself even said no player is unsellable. The double standards from some people on this website are eye watering…

    1. People are upset at the new management because we “lost” Tonali for a lot of money, but at the same time they defend the old management for losing Donnarumma, Kessie, Hakan, Romagnoli for nothing.
Those players were just as important, if not more important for the team than Tonali was.
Gigio was at Milan for 8 years,
      Romagnoli 7 years, 4 as a captain,
      Bonaventura 6 years
      Kessie 5 years,
      Hakan 4 years
Tonali was at Milan for only 3 years.
And people should not get it twisted, besides Romagnoli and Bonaventura, the rest all left because of money, including Tonali.
Can’t sell a player that doesn’t want to leave

      1. Yeah yeah yeah and what exactly is this new management doing to bring in new players? And please don’t say injury prone Loftus-Cheek, who has been playing poorly for a number of years? This new management is a joke for selling one of the brightest players. The ones you named weren’t even close, except for Kessie. Hakan was one of the most inconsistent players I’ve ever seen.

  5. Cardinale could care less about the fans and honor of ,tradition of the Curva Sud. Gutting the team like a fresh fish. Money grabbing whore. He sells one of the Rossoneri’s beloved players to Newcastle to strengthen their team which in theory weakens his owned team ,Liverpool , from getting into the Champions league. If he loved Sandro he would have moved him to his team ,Liverpool. Money hungry vulture.

  6. Shame, and not as much as he’s worth if you consider at the prices being paid for mediocre English players.

  7. I understand the thinking behind this, but I don’t really like it and nor do I think it’s a good deal for the club.

With Bennacer out, Kessie never replaced, Diaz’s loan finished, Tonali was the only reliable part of the midfield capable of being a full time starter in a title challenger.

Replacing that with probably only €55-60m from the deal will not be easy and Pioli has a crazy difficult job to integrate a completely new midfield weeks before the season starts.

  8. What a huge error by this new management, which clearly don’t have a clue what they’re doing. He won’t be replaced and they will bring some washup like Loftus Cheek instead. Embarrassing.
