Official: AC Milan to contest Silvio Berlusconi Trophy against Monza – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have announced that they will play for the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy in a friendly against AC Monza next month.

As the official website confirms, Milan will play Monza every year given that they are the two clubs that Berlusconi loved the most, with the first edition scheduled for 8 August.

The game will kick off at 21:00 CEST at the U-Power Stadium in Monza and in the coming seasons, the match venue will alternate between the stadiums of the two clubs, meaning it will be at San Siro in 2024.

Berlusconi was the owner and president of Milan from 1986 to 2017 – a total of 31 years – with 29 trophies coming in that period including eight Scudetto titles, one Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana seven times, five European Cups/Champions Leagues, two Intercontinental Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup and five European/UEFA Super Cups.

It means he oversaw the most successful period in the Rossoneri’s history, and we attempted to try and name a best XI of all the players that were there during his three-decade long tenure.

In September 2018, the Fininvest Group acquired Monza, who were at the time a Serie C side. They were promoted to Serie B after a 19-year absence in 2020 and then last year they got into Serie A for the first time.

They had a good debut season too, securing their Serie A status with six games to spare and eventually finishing 11th on 52 points.

  1. Surely a Silvio Berlusconi cup shouldn’t be Monza vs Milan but over-60s vs the U-17 feminine… What a wasted opportunity…
