Official: AC Milan vs. Lazio starting XIs – eight changes as starters returns

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan and Lazio will square off in just over an hour and both sides are looking for the win, given the tight Champions League race in the standings. Stefano Pioli has decided to make eight changes to the XI.

Milan only got one point from their mid-week clash against Cremonese as Pioli decided to change seven players in the starting XI. This time out, however, there’s no messing about as he has decided to field the strongest eleven.

The likes of Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Sandro Tonali, Rade Krunic, Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud are all back from start and Junior Messias will replace Brahim Diaz in the attacking trio.

Alessandro Florenzi is not in the squad due to a minor muscular injury.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Krunic; Messias, Bennacer, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Tatarusanu, Mirante, Ballo-Touré, Adli, Diaz, Rebic, Bakayoko, Kalulu, Origi, Thiaw, Pobega, Vranckx, Gabbia, Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere.

Official Lazio XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Casale, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Milinkovic, Marcos Antonio, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.

Bench: Luis Maximiano, Adamonis, Pellegrini, Gil, Pedro, Cancelleri, Romero, Radu, Lazzari, Gila, Bertini, Basic, Fares.

  1. There will still be complaints about this line-up from Milan fans, something like “why did he start Messias ahead of saelemaekers, why is Diaz on the bench, why did he not give Adli a chance ahead of Bennacer”

    We will hear complaints soon

    1. Quite the contrary, at least from me. I just came here to say I’m so happy to see Diaz where he belongs, on the bench.
Kjaer is also there, so this is the exact eleven I would choose as well, and I’m sure most of the people who complained in here in the last few days would agree.
Sure, some will still complain because they have other opinions. Nothing wrong with that.

      1. Diaz belongs on the bench?
Well you never said that after the 2 legs against Napoli or did I read anywhere you wrote that?
        Incredible.

        1. No, I didn’t say it. Those were two great games by him. He he had some other good moments. Far, far too few of them though, in my opinion.
I think he was better against Napoli because of the lack of physicality of his direct opponents, like Mario Rui or Lobotka. He humiliated them more than once. He could be usfeul against that type of player, I guess, but most Serie A defenders will eat him alive.

  2. What happened to leao?
I just watch it and he was substituted?
    Does his injury look bad?

As for the table, i really hope it will be napoli, milan, inter, juve for the ucl.

I don’t think lazio and roma are ready for the ucl, better for them to play in uel.

    1. Yeah in my opinion doesn’t look very good. It was without any contact, he just cut and had a pain. Seems strange to me. I think he will miss the first game against Inter but let’s see
