Official: Donnarumma wins the Italian Golden Boy 2019 ahead of Zaniolo

By Isak Möller -

Earlier today, the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who are in charge of the award, announced the top 18 list of the Golden Boy 2019. One AC Milan player was present, namely Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Ever since making his debut for the club back in 2015, 16 years old, the goalkeeper has been a very important player for the Rossoneri. This was further backed up today as his name was present on the top 18 list for the Golden Boy 2019 award.

With 37 votes, just one vote ahead of Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, Donnarumma ended up in 8th place. Even though this didn’t win him the overall award, which Joao Felix took home, he won Tuttosport’s subcategory ‘Best Italian Player Under 21’.

Hopefully, Gigio can continue on this path and become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, although some would say that he is one of them already. Given his age, though, there is certainly room for improvement.
