Official: Milan defeat the final straw as Roma sack Jose Mourinho

By Oliver Fisher -

AS Roma have confirmed this morning that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect.

A statement on Roma’s official website recalls that Mourinho was unveiled as their 60th coach in May 2021 and that he led the Giallorossi to the Conference League win in Tirana in May 2022, plus the Europa League final in Budapest last season.

However, things have not gone as well for the Portuguese this season. Roma currently sit ninth in the Serie A table with just eight wins from their opening 20 games, which puts them five points off the Champions League places.

Yacine Adli, Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez all scored on Sunday night as Milan beat the capital club 3-1 at San Siro in a game that Mourinho was suspended for after receiving a red card. The Rossoneri moved 13 points above them, as a result.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

  1. If they’re intelligent, they’ll wait for Pioli to become available, I think he’d do very well there (unfortunately) if Milan do make a change.

  2. Lol Mourinho has never won against Pioli and now Pioli has got him sacked. Yeah I know he wasn’t there for Roma’s game against us, but you know he was contact with his assistant.

That’s gotta burn for his ego.

9th place and a wage bill 20 million euros bigger than our own. Crazy.

  3. Looks like they are shoe-horning in De Rossi, from reports.

They are about to learn that having ‘the team in your blood’ doesn’t count for as much when you’re not on the pitch.

    1. Funny, you hate transfers. Conte will mean LOTS of transfers, beginning with a complete overhaul of our forward line. We’ll be getting rid of known quantities for whatever only to see Conte depart after season 2 and with us no better off than before.

  4. Don’t joke ..if we have conte it will be a step backwards…players will leave ..it will take years to rebuild…yes years ..
We are doing well with pioli ..
Hope he is still our coach next season ..
You want instant success it won’t happen.
Futher progress and success will come again with pioli
