AC Milan’s new signing, Ante Rebic, has been handed a five-game ban by UEFA after being shown a red card in a Europa League game with Eintracht Frankfurt last month, AP reports (via Fox Sports).
In addition to a reckless challenge, which resulted in the sending off, the Croatian also insulted the referee, AP reports. Therefore, UEFA made the decision to ban him for the upcoming five games in European competitions.
However, AC Milan are not in any European competitions after agreeing to a one-year ban earlier this year. As a result of this, the report continues, the ban will become active as soon as the club Rebic plays for is in European competitions.
In other words, should the Rossoneri qualify for the Champions League next season, or Europa League for that matter, then the winger would miss the first five games. Luckily, the ban doesn’t cover the Serie A, which would have been a real blow.
