Official: Saelemaekers suffers partial MCL tear in left knee – the recovery time

By Isak Möller -

Alexis Saelemaekers was forced to leave AC Milan’s game against Empoli early due to an injury and an official update has now arrived from the club. Unfortunately for the player, the World Cup is in danger.

The Belgian received a knock to his left knee during the game and pretty quickly signalled to the bench that he need to come off. Bad news for Milan, who also have Junior Messias on the injury list and thus had to play Rade Krunic on the right.

As confirmed by Milan, Saelemaekers has suffered a partial tear to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and he will now undergo conservative therapy, rather than surgery. The recovery time should be 6-8 weeks for the winger.

In short, depending on how long the recovery takes, he might not get called up by Belgium for the World Cup (which will begin in late November). As was also confirmed by the club to the media, Davide Calabria and Simon Kjaer will be evaluated tomorrow.

  1. Wonder if management will reflect on how useless vrancks and thiaw tranfers were. When we had such and evident and massive need on RW even without injuries.

      1. Ok he is injured. We still have Kalulu and Gabbia. Who do we have on RW? Oh by the way Kjaer, Tomori and Kalulu are amazing. Would you say the same about Messias or Saelemakers

  2. When he was injured i was appalled to see on social media like twitter that a fair share of AC Milan “fans” actually was happy about him getting substituted after his injury. In my book people shouldnt be allowed to consider themselves as fans of our club if they are of that view and they should quite frankly consider themselves lucky if not getting banned.
Glad to see its not the case here, best of wishes to saelemaekers and for that matter the rest of our injury stricken players for speedy recoveries as we need them all back as quickly as possible.
