Official: Jose Sanchez will officiate Milan’s encounter with Newcastle

By Isak Möller -

UEFA have announced the referees for the first matchday of the Champions League group stage. The Spaniard Jose Sanchez will be in charge of AC Milan’s game against Newcastle on Tuesday.

Sanchez is a rather young referee, aged 39, and he has never officiated a game with the Rossoneri or Newcastle involved. He has a good amount of European games under his belt, though, so the fans should not be worried. His team will be entirely Spanish, apart from the assistant VAR Marco Fritz who is German (via MilanNews).

Milan will be in desperate search of a win after the humiliating loss against Inter last night. The best way to bounce back would, of course, be a strong performance against the English side in front of the San Siro crowd.

The players will be assessed by Stefano Pioli this morning and in the coming days, we should know more about the starting XI for the game. Fikayo Tomori will be back after serving a suspension in the derby and that’s a boost for the manager.
